Hello,
I am going to use USB flashdrive with wl-500g to boot from it and also to keep some binaries, posted by kind people in this forum (mvc, spca50x maybe palantin, mailtools and others) as well as my scrtipts to get it running.
I am using custom software 1.9.2.7 CR3c. and while setting up all things (fdisk-ing, formatting, taring etc) I got a question - what is the best way to arrange partitions on flashdrive? Specifically the questions are:
1) Is it better to separate root partition with files from firmware from other binaries? I mean - create separate small root partition to store files from custom software on it, booting from it and never (or really rare) mount it read-write? And keep binaries and other stuff on another partition, mounting it as, say, /opt even read-write without fear to destroy bootable software. Or such separation is just waste of precious memory on extra mount?
1A) If answer to Q1 is non-negative, than how large should be root partition? Files of current custom version spent around 12 MBytes on my flashdrive, so I estimate that root partition size of 16 Mbytes will be enough - is it reasonable or should I consider 32 MBytes?
2) Is it worth trying to arrange swap on flashdisk? Yes, I know that flash is bad for frequent re-writing, but if it survives say million cycles and average period between writes - say 100 sec, it will give appx 1000 days before wear-out, which is three years - enough for me :)
2A) If answer to Q2 is not strictly negative - than how can I arrange swap? Is it just marking partition as swap in fdisk and running mkswap and swapon in boot scripts?
Thanks in advance for your opinions
