I have my WL-520gU running the latest OLEG firmware, have attached a USB 60G drive to it (small partition for /opt directory, big partition for SMB share). I can access the large partition from my PC via SMB, and all appears fine. However, the speed of copying files from the drive over to my PC is very slow. About 1MB (Mega Byte) per second. About 9Mb (mega bits) per second. I am connected via 100mbps network. I know the drive itself can transfer at 10MB per second sustained when connected directly to my PC. And the network is not a bottleneck, I would assume.

So what is the bottleneck? How do I confirm I have USB2.0 driver loaded. I assume the latest firmware has this built in, right?

Any thoughts, or is this a normal transfer speed?

It's probably a normal speed. You can expect a speed between 1MB and 4MB per sec. (rarely 4MB/sec)

If you copy a lot of small files expect around 1MB/sec.
for a large file (e.g. an ISO file) expect around 2 or 3 MB/sec.

The asus is not fast enough to deliver higher speeds over USB 2.0.

Try an ftp connection first to see what speed you get.
