Dear Members,

Since installing firmware release from Oleg (version 1.9.2.7-7g) I have noticed that very often I'm loosing connection with router.
It happens when I'm surfing over the internet - I receive information that:
"Connection Interrupted
The connection to the server was reset while the page was loading.
The network link was interrupted while negotiating a connection. Please try again.
"
This happens only if I'm connected over wifi - during normal "cable" connection everything is fine - so I'm sure that there is no problem with internet provider.

There is no problem with signal visibility - I'm sitting 1m from the router, there are no obstacles between.

I was trying use another pc and mobile phone - situation is the same, connections are interrupted.

This phenomena occurs randomly - I didn't noticed any time pattern - only web browsing is extremly slow and pages going blank with information of corrupted connection.
Of course - if the corruption happens during online phone call - call is missing till "refreshing" signal.

Does anybody of you can suggest what can be wrong ???
What can I check?

My wireless setting in router:
Channel: defined (7)
Wireless mode: Auto
Authentication Method: WPA/PSK
WPA Encryption: AES
WEP Encryption: none

The rest of settings is default.

Thank you for any help,
Kind regards,
Goraith

guess you've a wl500gpV1.
Telnet to your router and do a 'wl noise'
and read: http://www.wl500g.info/showpost.php?p=87664&postcount=11

If your pre-amplifier is not working, read the complete thread.

if everything is ok, try to check out your neighbourhood. Very often they use wireless, hence they can interfere with your wireless connection. Regular interference at 2,4 GHz is up to 4 channels, it means you should use just ch 1,6,11 to ensure a stable wireless connection. At least the pitch between two wireless networks should be 4 free channels.
Interference with other wireless devices cause often a random dropped connection as yours.
Hope this helps.

Thank you for your answer.

I have checked "wl noise" - I received "noise is 0 (off)" - on which discussion in the recommended topic stops without explanations.

In the meantime I will try change channel - maybe it will help.

Thank you Newbiefan once again,

Kind regards,
Goraith

Just recognized, that you've installed olegs-7g. Maybe command wl noise is available only in newer fws.
Anyway try to use a "real" free channel.
Added: Regular bandwidth with wireless is about 22 MHz (@2,4GHz) per wireless connection. But channel pitch (@2,4GHz) is just 5 MHz, thats the reason why at least 4 free channels should be between the next used channel. Or in other words: just 3 channels can be used at one location.

I have checked all channels - from 1 to 13 - on all channels the same poor result.
Additionally I have checked if there any other wifi signal - there is no signal at all - my router is the only one in range. So we are at the beginning...:(
Are there any bugs in Auth. Methods or something?
Do you have any ideas what can I do next?

What exactly "noise is 0 (off)" message means? Thread about this message ends without any constructive answer...
Is there any way to receive values like -90 or so...
I'm using the newest version of firmware - so another update should not change anything...
Please help...

Thank you in advance,
Kind regards,
Goraith

I'm using the newest version of firmware - so another update should not change anything...

well, let's start: open a console on your router and post the output of:

cat /.version

Next: do a factory reset and if necessary install again olegs newest fw.

Next: try to disable any driver program in windows. Use just the regular windows driver instead. It is well known, that several driver progs from manufacturer don't work propper, especially when not windows certified.
For instance: when using netgear wg111v2 uninstall complete program and install just the driver, let windows handle the connection.

Next: borrow (from a friend) an usb wireless stick and check connection again.

Next: check your logfile, maybe you get a hint.

Next: If any wireless devices in the near - just disconnect power for a while, particularly wireless landline-phones.

Next: decribe with a few words your upgrade procedure to olegs fw.
(How, and preparing steps)

Next: check out your wireless connection with an other wireless router for several hours.

Hint: until now, olegs newest fw is running without any problems or interruption since weeks 24/7 on my asus. And believe me, my asus is sometimes under heavy load........

Let us know your efforts and success

Hello again,

At the beginning I would like to mention that I have installed the newest firmware version available: 1.9.2.7-10.
"wl noise" shows values -83 to -89 - with no regular pattern.
I would like to emphasize that:
-router is 1m away, direct visibility
-I'm using native tools of WinXP for wifi connection - no external drivers, pure WinXP installation
-

well, let's start: open a console on your router and post the output of:

cat /.version

1.9.2.7-10

Next: do a factory reset and if necessary install again olegs newest fw.

Reset done, upgrading to Asus original firmware, then installation of Oleg's 1.9.2.7-10

Next: try to disable any driver program in windows. Use just the regular windows driver instead. It is well known, that several driver progs from manufacturer don't work propper, especially when not windows certified.
For instance: when using netgear wg111v2 uninstall complete program and install just the driver, let windows handle the connection.

Not applicable in my case, I don't use any additional/external programs-drivers, tests were done on clean installation of WinXP.

Next: borrow (from a friend) an usb wireless stick and check connection again.

It was tested with other wifi routers - results are below...
There is no problem with wifi on the notebook which I'm using - I'm 100% sure.

Next: check your logfile, maybe you get a hint.

Which exactly logfile should be the best to check?

Next: If any wireless devices in the near - just disconnect power for a while, particularly wireless landline-phones.

Disconnection done - no other wireless available

Next: decribe with a few words your upgrade procedure to olegs fw.
(How, and preparing steps)

Step by step according to Wengi's manual
[How To] Install and Configure Olegs firmware

http://wl500g.info/showthread.php?t=10307

Next: check out your wireless connection with an other wireless router for several hours.

Tested with D-Link and Linksys wireless routers - in these case there are no interruptions, transmission is without any major delays...

Hint: until now, olegs newest fw is running without any problems or interruption since weeks 24/7 on my asus. And believe me, my asus is sometimes under heavy load........

So you're lucky man...

Kind regards,
:( Goraith

Well, sounds pretty interesting, dropped connection and no reason for it.

Anyhow, as I started with my modemE220 config, I had no wireless at the beginning.
I found the solution in "wl antdiv 3" which allows the router to select the best antenna. Until now, I've no idea why, because I was just a few meters away.

Anyway you can try 0,1 and 3 (internal, external, best signal).
Maybe it helps.....
