I have been having a lot of internet problems while using the WL500g wireless router; I have just now found this forum and I hope my problem is fixable.

While connecting the internet without using the wireless router, the internet works flawlessly and without any problems, but obviously this way only one computer, the one the modem is connected directly to, has internet.

The problem[s] occur when I connect the internet using the wireless router: it randomly and frequently goes on and off [although the tray icon sometimes indicates it's on]; it takes several refreshings until the requested site comes up, and sometimes no matter how many times you try, it's just futile; instant messaging programs like MSN Messenger and ICQ sometimes doesn't work either.

The problems' origin is most likely the wireless router since, as stated before, while connecting the modem directly to the computer without using the router - the internet work fluently.

Any suggestions / speculations about the problem and how can I solve it?

Thanks in advance.

[P.S: English isn't my first languege so if I'm being unclear about something I'm sorry about it and please point it out =]]

very hard to say based on the way you put it. There can be probems with the wireless driver on your PC, problems with the signal, etc. You should troubleshoot this from the basics: close to the router (side-to-side), no encription, no access control list, etc, check nobody else is connected to the router via wireless. If problems persist, try another access point. If problem get solved, start building the scenario you had: go back to the original placement and check, then set encription and check, etc....

if your wireless connection goes on and off i would first try
to set a fixed wireless channel on your asus.
Start with putting it on channel 6. (in asus web interface). If this doesn't work try another channel.
