Let me start from the beginning. I messed up my partition table, so I used Linux to mount the drive and save all my data on another drive. I now have the drive back in the Asus box and am trying to get the box to work again. I don't mind if my data is wiped or left on the drive since I have a backup of it now. I am trying to flash the firmware as I read somewhere this will re-write the partition table and make the drive work with the Asus box again although I am having some difficulties.
I think I have managed to get the unit into recovery mode by holding down the EZSetup button until the ready light flashes. The current state is the orange power light and the link status light for the Ethernet that I have plugged in.
When I start the Asus firmware restore utility it fails and says:
Attempting to download firmware to local subnet
Use control-c to exit
then after a few moments it says:
ERROR: Could not receive identification:10054
Preparing to exit...
I have already used the reset button on the router and have set my computers IP address to 192.168.1.2 and have a subnet mask of 255:255:255:0. I have also successfully pinged the router at the IP 192.168.1.1
There must be something I am doing wrong but I don't know what it is. I'm not sure if it would be easier or even possible to re-load the original Asus partition table through Linux although I am very in-experienced with Linux (I DID save all my data using it though, I'm so proud!) So if anyones going to suggest that please provide step by step instructions!
