Hi all,

I read somewhere in the forum that there is a problem with VPN passthrough in the firmware. It didn't say which firmware.

My question:
I want to setup a VPN server on my XP machine.
I want to connect to it from WAN...

Is there a problem with the latest ASUS firmware or not. (1.9.2.7) ?

Who knows if there is a publicly available vpn server somewhere to try to login as a client and see if my router works that way....

regards,

kraai

VPN passthrough is not fully implemented in all firmwares AFAIK. You'll probably have problems with CHAP authentication. Try with different settings on VPN server.

In my case VPN with ms-chap authentication worked fine with all major firmware versions. The latest ones had a VPN passthrough bug with firewall fixed, which is important. But in contrast to your case my VPN server was located at WAN side, however, I see no significant difference here.

It' s impotant.

If you have problem, try disable Firewall Wl-500
( may be DMZ help you)

Mine runs Olegs 1.9.2.7-3a, and I can connect to the office vpn no problem. I did have a problem with a previous version link (http://wl500g.info/showthread.php?t=1344&highlight=vpn) but all recent ones should work no problem.

My setup...speedtouch 510 (dhcp spoof) --- wl500g ----xp pc

I tried this. My xp-pc running the vpn server is in DMZ in the router. No firewall on router. Still not able to reach pc.

Who has this working ( by the way its in an article of computertotaal this month for those who know the magazine)

What I also see in my router log:

filter: TCP connection accepted to 192.168.1.2:1723 from 81.68.2.74:3561

and on my pc: with netstat -n
Proto Lokaal adres Extern adres Status
TCP 81.68.2.74:3561 83.118.74.238:1723 SYN_SENT

This is because I used a dialup connection as VPN client back to my adsl router and my pc as server.

My ppp ip adres (dynamic) was 81.68.2.74.

So I can see it leaving my pc and coming back at the router but I don't see anything coming back at my pc....except for this:

TCP 192.168.1.2:3479 192.168.1.1:5431 ESTABLISHED
But this has nothing to do with vpn I believe...

AHHH

CLUES please !!!!

You need to use custom firmware, stock firmwares has too many problems with firewall.
