12 VDC Power supply - is it possible?

I am thinking about arranging backup power supply for WL500G and couple of other electronic boxes. Most of them are happy with 12 Volts VDC, and a number of backup power supplies (with built-in batteries) are quite affordable. I know that some DLink boxes, rated with 5VDC power have input circuites capable to work with up to 24 Volts, and I am interested if somebody have similar knowledge, or, even better, experience of feeding wl500g with 12VDC.
Detailed photos of input circuits (capacitor and chip close to power jack) will also be of some help. On published images names of details are unreadable.

The answer is NO: parallel port uses 5V directly, input capacitors are rated for 10V.

You can build a power regulator with a L200 IC.
I's quite easy. look at the datasheet.
All you need to do is set the output voltage to 5v and the maximum current to 2A.
