Bekijk de volledige versie : FTP for dummies.
Hi,
I am a avarage computer user with avarage computer knowledge.
I know how to upload my html files for my website, and I have succesfully setup my wireless homenetwork. That is where my computer knowledge ends.
I have the Asus WL500g and a usb HDD attached.
I know how acces the FTP server locally.
How do I connect to the FTP server over the internet via the internet explorer?
And via a ftp program like WSftp?
I hope someone can give me a answer!
Thanks in advance,
Bas
Ok,
I have come some further; my firmware is 1.6.5.3, and according to this forum that shouldnt be working.
I barely have enough wireless range now, so upgrading to the latest firmware (with limited wireless range) is no option.
Which version should I use, and where can I find it?
Thanks,
Bas
Just set output power to 20 mW (something other than 19mW) and latest firmware will work fine.
Thanks Oleg,
It worked fine. Guess what? I even have better wireless connection! even through two floors (without changing the TX output).
Still cant get connection over internet to my usb hdd.
Made my host name: bas.ladru
Should the following address work?
ftp://test:test@bas.ladru:21

no. this address should be registered in the dns and this one does not look so.
If your ISP assigns you dynamic ip addresses, you should consider using dyndns.org. Otherwise use the WAN IP address of the router instead of the DNS name.
Thanks guys!
Slowly this newbee is getting there...
My WAN connection type is still on automatic IP.
Should I change this to static IP, and make up an IP number?
What IP address, subnet mask and default gateway should use?
Thanks again.

No. That most probably will not work. See your ISP for information on how to configure the WAN settings.
