Sharing of mp3

Hello everyone

Thanks to the great tutorials from many members I could setup a harddisk drive connected to my Asus 500gp as a network drive thru' samba2, even though I m a new hand to linux.

now i would like to share my mp3 kept in the network drive so that my notebook & desktop computer could use itunes to play the music.

Does it mean that I should install some server such as mt-daapd? If yes, is there any instructions available for me to follow?

quick how to:

ipkg update
ipkg install ushare


well, now you only need to edit the settings, wich are really self explaining;)

vi /opt/etc/ushare.conf

then just reboot

you only nee uShare (or mediatomb) if you have uPNP enabled players in your network.

If you only want your pc's/laptop's to access the mp3's from within your network just place them on the share and you should be able to access the share from your 'network neighbourhood'

The uShare method wpte mentioned is very nice, but only if you want to do streaming.

If you just want to be able to access the files use samba.
If you want to index your music and make it accessible through a website use: 'ampjuke' or 'kplaylist' (both are opensource php applications, which will run on your asus if you set it up accordingly.)

I'm not sure if you could use a plain AV server for itunes.
I mean, apple always requires something "special":p the part I don't like about apple;)
I just said ushare to try out as it's really easy to setup, and if it doesnt work, just remove it:)
