Is it possible to compile programs for the WL500g with cygwin (under WinXP)?
If yes, which extra packages need to be instaled?

No, you would need the complete toolchain linked against the cygwin lib.
I dont know if its even possible, you would need the complete sourcecode from all toolchain programs.

try a minimalist ISO gentoo install...
Knoppix 3.7 works great on Microsoft Virtual PC. I tried Knoppix several times with the latest VMWare but gave it up, it worked highly unstable.

I finally have my Mandrake working inside my vmware.... I just setted up vmware to emulate an IDE disk instead of a SCSI disk....
