Hello,
I recently purchsed the Wl-500g. I went through the quick setup and was unable to connect to the internet. I have tried all of the connection types (ADSL Cable automatic ip etc.). I have also tried diabling the firewall my firewalls and this did not correct the problem. I have tried various WEP options and entering IP adress manually and automatic. Mostly i have left that as automatic. I have tried to follow Antiloop's basic setup but my home gateway screen is not exactly the same and i am not sure where the properties box that he showed is. To all of this networking stuff I am a complete n00b so I apoligized if this is answered somewhere else and i couldn't understand it.
I have a DSL connectiow with a Westell modem model 2200. My wired computer has DAVICOM NIC card 10\100 Base T and is running Win98. I have a wireless card, a CNet model CWP-854 and that computer is running XP. The router has the firmware version 1.8.1.9.
Thank you.

My WAN IP is 192.168.1.3
My WAN DNS is 192.168.1.1
For my LAN DHCP I used the command ipconfig /all and it says for DHCP Server 192.168.1.1.

Seems to me your wl-500g is a dhcp client of the cable/adsl modem. The WL-500g in itself is a dhcp server for your LAN. Both are in the same private range: 192.168.1.x. That is wrong. One of them should be another subnet. I suggest you go to your webinterface of your WL-500g and change setting:
IP Config > IP > IP pool starting address to 192.168.2.2
IP Config > WAN&LAN > IP Address to 192.168.2.1

That should fix it.

I tried that and it didn't work. I set the wan ip to 192.168.2.2 and the lan ip to 192.168.2.3 and set up the ip pool accordingly and set the wan as a static ip. Then i tried leaving as automatic ip and the lan to 192.168.2.2 and adjusting the ip pool accordingly. Both times after it restarted i was also unable to access the web interface and had to reset the router. Thank you for your suggestion I apperciate it.

The WAN IP is determined by your modem or your ISP, depending on your connection.

Try Automatic for WAN IP and WAN DNS

Thank you for your help brubber, but I was still unable to connect to the internet. I adjusted the ip pool as per the earlier help message i recieved leaving everything else to automatic, but it didn't work.

OK,

Your modem is using the same subnet as the WL-500g, and both are using the 192.168.1.1 adress for their admin page and gateway adress.

Seems to me you have to change either of those, don't know if this is possible however for the WL-500g. ( Oleg / Styno /Antiloop  )

You should be able to change the nescessary settings on your modem http://www.broadbandreports.com/forum/remark,11248852~mode=flat, you could give that a try.

If that doesn't work Styno's solution still may work, please try once more
Seems to me your wl-500g is a dhcp client of the cable/adsl modem. The WL-500g in itself is a dhcp server for your LAN. Both are in the same private range: 192.168.1.x. That is wrong. One of them should be another subnet. I suggest you go to your webinterface of your WL-500g and change setting:
IP Config > IP > IP pool starting address to 192.168.2.2
IP Config > WAN&LAN > IP Address to 192.168.2.1
That should fix it.Even though you stat that you have tried this solution I think you may have made a mistake there:
I tried that and it didn't work. I set the wan ip to 192.168.2.2; this is obviously wrong and the lan ip to 192.168.2.3 and set up the ip pool accordingly and set the wan as a static ip. Then i tried leaving as automatic ip and the lan to 192.168.2.2: I think this should be 1 and adjusting the ip pool accordingly. Both times after it restarted i was also unable to access the web interface and had to reset the router. Thank you for your suggestion I apperciate it.

In Styno's solution you should have
WAN IP: 192.168.1.x (where x can probably be 2 or higher)
WAN DNS 192.168.1.1
WAN gateway 192.168.1.1
(So leave your WAN IP and DNS set to automatic)

LAN IP and LAN DHCP settings as pointed out by Styno.

The only thing I'm not sure about is wether you are still able to get to your Wl-500g config pages through the web interface.

I tried changing the setting on the modem to 192.168.2.1 and then leaving everything on the router to 192.168.1.1. That didn't work as I was unable to connect to the internet. I was however able to get to their respective interfaces. I then retried styno suggestion. I changed the LAN IP setting to 192.168.2.1 which then reconfigured the IP pool starting and ending addresses. I was still unable to connect to the internet and was only able to connect to the webinterface of router not my modem. Thanks for your continued help.

Hello again.
After my last post i reinstalled my modem software. I then reconnected the router and now everything works. I want to say thank you to everyone who has helped me and i really apperciate it. For those with the same problem i left the modem as 192.168.1.1 and changed the router LAN IP address to 192.168.2.1. This changed the IP pool setting to match. The WAN addres and etc. was all left to either the default setting or automatic. I also had to use the command ipconfig /release and /renew on both my computers to set them with router addresses. Thanks again.
