Have you done anything to the box after installing the custom firmware? I suspect you're running an older rc.local that doesn't properly modify the passwd file.

To temporarily get into the box, make sure you flash the xxx_02 or later nas file and press and hold the copy button when the ready light blinks (three times) until it remains on steady. This will bypass any customizations and force the firmware default startup scripts which should work for you.

No I have not done anything since I installed the WL700gE_kc_1078_02.nas firmware lastnight.

How does one check if the rclocal is older or not and how do you update it?

in other words what things should I look at?

OK Update I did what You suggested and I am able to log in via Shell... must I always do that? What do I do now?

After your suggestion and a hard boot all seems to work... mldonkey client is leaps and bounds over the stock asus client :) Yay! Happy now...

Thx KC for your help/suggetions, much appreciated...:)
