Hi,

I´m brand new to ASUS, but I have fiddled around with Linksys and DD-WRT. Recently changed to Tomato on the Linksys, which is a lot more stable...
But, for the new (to me) WL-500GP i was thinking of using either OpenWRT or Oleg. Intend to use the router with a HDD and a USB-stick. Possibly as a ftp-server. And I would like to try to install Asterisk and use it as SIP-server...

Have read some on forums - but without installing them one-by-one it is very difficult to know which one that best serves my purposes... So, any tip is appreciated...

Well, it's hard to decide which one is the best fw.

I would say it depends strongly to your needs and what you wanna do with your router. When playing around and install this and that - I would suggest openwrt as long as you are firm with linux.
