Problem with custom 1.8.1.7-3 firmware ?

Yesterday I tried to change my configuration from :

firmware : Asus 1.6.5.3
Modem : Alcatel speed touch home modified to make it ppoe on a Adsl line

to

firmware : Custom 1.8.1.7-3
Modem : Motorola SB5100H on a cable line

The main purpose of the upgrade was the printing capacity that I couldn't make
working with the old firmware. For this part everything goes OK.

The second purpose was the use of my new cable connection, for this I didn't manage to
make it work.

I saw on theses forums before that I'll probably have to reset the modem to make it
recognize the MAC adress of the Asus instead of the MAC adress of my laptop I use
to test the connection with the cable company technician.
I tried to connect the modem to wl500G and it didn't work. I went to http://192.168.1.100/
and found only one link to help page. After seeking the internet I try
http://192.168.1.100/config.html but I didn't have any option to reset the modem.

I tried to use the MAC Adress cloning by putting the laptop one on the MAC ADRESS field
of ISP requirement on IP Config but it didn't work. When I telnet to WL500g and type
ifconfig I didn't see the MAC Adress I've put. I didn't see any adress configured on the
eth1/eth0 and I only have two routes (127.0.0.xxx and 192.168.1.xxx) none on


After all theses try, I wanted to reconfigure my connection with ADSL, but I didn't manage to
make it work anymore.

Can you please help me or give me the command I can try to test
connectivity from asus to modems (howto to give an adress, add a route)
that I can ping the modems.

first poweroff your SB5200 or something

and consult the manual of the SB5200 for resetting procedure or the supplier of your modem

I've phone to the cable company that ask me to:
- shutdown my router
- remove all three cables from the modem (ethernet, coax and power)
- Wait 2mn
- replug all cables
- Wait all led fixed on the modem
- turn on the router.

I'll try this night hope, it will work.

Where can I see the log for the dhcp request from the WL500g, or how I can
make the router try to obtain an adress ?

Use ifconfig eth1 to see MAC address.

When I've done ifconfig eth1, I saw a mac Adress beginning by 00-06
but the one I've put was beginning by 44-45.

How can I try to give eth1 an static adress and try to ping the modem ?

Yes, this seems to be a bug in the ASUS firmware. They're ignoring MAC address setting now.
To config manually just type
ifconfig eth1 x.x.x.x
or use web interface.

P.S. you could directly modify MAC address by modifying et1macaddr nvram variable


nvram set et1macaddr=00:11:22:33:44:55
nvram commit
reboot


Edit: Just checked myself - mac cloning works fine. Firmware DOES NOT ignore this setting. Looks like you've specified invalid mac address - it's unlikely, that it start with 44:

idd this is not a bug, I'm using it because my provider wants a specific MAC address
