Hi folks, my first post here !
First of all : Oleg, thank you, and thank you all guys for you effort.
My brick is working almost perfectly with 1.9.2.7-8 firmware with samba2(vista ultimate ok!), uShare and Transmission.
I'm using a 120GB USB HD but something strange happen with Transmission.
It's quite fast downloading(reaches 300kB/s) but as soon as the the file has been completed it disapear! Both from work and target folder !:eek:
Does anybody experienced this problem?

No such problem experienced. Check what is doing transmission_watchdog when moving files from work to targer. Disable cron and run manually with

Oleo, I've just removed and installed again transmission and now it works like charms... always thanking you for Transmission dev/support.
Oleo, what's happen with transmission? Now it's just one big bug.
1. If where is no space on HD transmission continue download file. Where is no any messages about it. I've downloaded around 120Gb of trash.
2. After update (today 26/12) previous version was updated around 3-4 days ago transmission update/redownload all seeded files.
P.S. It was very good client for torrent, but which bug would be next?
I am just humble follower of the libtransmission development. I've suspected such problems. If you press Help you will see my warning:
With introdution of 0.9x libtransmission library many changes happened.
Most notable is new developer, that brought new ideas such as libevent
instead of threads, encryption support, PEX, ban peers, ..., and new bugs.
Lets hope that new versions will be better. Happy new year.

oleo, is there a way to recheck torrent files in 0.96 ?
When I deleted corresponding hash-files in
$HOME/.transmission/cache/
and
$HOME/.transmission/torrents/
it started to download again instead of checking files.

I have upgrade transmission via ipkg at 1.06+ (5170) width no error.
After update trasmissiond crash and non run.
If I type from shell
/opt/sbin/transmission_watchdog &
and after few second type
ps xaf
I get

I've tried to suspend all download. Transmission doesn't crash and appear in the process list!
With transmission active if I've tried to resume a torrent from suspended: transmission crash and the daemon disappear from process list.
I've tried to reboot router with no effect.
I don't say why transmission doesn't work!
Can anyone help me?

I had the same problem with the same sympton. Please help:confused:.
BTW, is ctorrent any better than Transmission ?
(wl-500gp router mode pppoe/oleg firmware/300gUSB/USBprinter)
I've also noticed that and udated to 1.06+ (5177) and now it works.

I have suspended all torrent, removed .transmission directory and the other support file. I've restart router.
Transmission don't crash. I've reactivate all torrent and now transmission appaer to be working.

Hi! How to manage big torrents? I have 2Gb swap and download torrents about 8Gb normally. But when I try to download 30Gb torrent then nothing happens and the log says:

Strange. Install atop and see how your memory is growing. I've downloaded 50GB torrents w/o problem.
I've installed atop. I see that when I push 30Gb torrent then transmission CPU% raises till appr. 68% (in normal state it can be 80 either) and then the process is being killed. Which parameters should I use to trace the transmission memory usage?
P.S.What is the size of your swap?
Since upgrading to transmission 1.06+ and push scrape, I always get the error message [......torrent.seeding scrape failed]
It does with both trackers I use.
Up to 1.03 version I had no problems like this and it was also much more stable to keep torrents active.
Any advice?
Scrape is using transmissioncli so you could try this manually. Also there in a btlist -s if you installed libbt to check if scrape works on your tracker. From my findings my patch to libbt works better than that transmission, so please open a ticket at trac.transmissionbt.com to correct this in future releases. Meanwhile I can change CLI to use btlist for scraping.
I am using openwrt-brcm24 feed and not oleg. Swap size is 512MB. R/V grow percentage should be evident in atop.

I've upgraded today to "transmission - 1.06+r5370-1" and the transmission
daemon does not work anymore.
When I push "Watchdog" in the www interface, the transmission watchdog starts, the transmissiond processes also, but they stop immediately.
Do anyone have the same problem?

yeh got the same problem here... I just upgraded it today (25-march-08)

I have a new question -not exactly a problem tho-. Is there any "nice way" of shutting down transmission before a reboot, or shutdown?
I'm cleaning out my installation and thought about to include a command to pre-shutdown to get the same result as "pausing" transmission from the web I/F. Killall transmissiond does not seem to be an elegant way of doing this. :-)
Don't thank me. Upgrade is missing transmissiond. Thats why it's working fine with an old version. It seems that I must take a time and resolve this issue.
. /opt/etc/transmission.conf kill $PIDFILE
shoud be enough. Althouh you must wait or pool the daemon.
When transmission finishes downloading file and the watchdog moves it to the /target/ directory and initiates seeding, the <torrent>.resume file (or that's where I see it) is not updated with the changed path to the file (there still is a reference to the /work/ directory). Messages like "cannot locate ..../work/<torrent>/.status file" start to appear in log file, seeding is not performed.
I can workaround this problem by stopping the seeding for that file, manually changing the path in the <torrent>.resume file, and starting the seeding process again (however, torrent is rechecked before it starts to seed).

This is quite annoying, since a lot of productive seeding time is missed, if I'm not around when download finishes...
I am not experiencing such issue.
Transmisisond uses tr_ctorSetDestination( ctor, TR_FORCE, dirname(folder)); when starting torrent.

Maybe the problem is just in .status files. Upload seems to work. Will see if upcoming release will solve this anyway. Otherwise solution will be found ASAP.

I'm afraid new ver. transmission_1.11+r5645-1_mipsel.ipk didn't solve the problem
After moving into "target":

There is not any change in sth.resume file. I have to do it manually.

Well... It kinda solved the problem -- now transmissiond terminates with a core dump during download... ;) :(

I've also experienced core dumps but then I've started over with fresh torrents and it looks it works. But the bug is still there. Let's hope that future versions will sovle this.

It's interesting that for me just seeding old torrents works ok. The problem appears when downloading a fresh one...

Maybe. Maybe not. Bug catching can be hard. There are some bug reports like http://trac.transmissionbt.com/ticket/884 and thrown away with "works for me" scenario. So if you are keen enough you can create debug version of transmission with
make electric-fence-stage
set
TRANSMISSION_CPPFLAGS=-g -O0

and disable stripping when package is made.
When crash occurs you will find a coredump in $HOME/.config/transmission directory. Then just run
gdb /opt/bin/transmissiond core.PID
and type
where
to unroll the stack.
If this is too deep you will need to
set heuristic-fence-post=30000
or so. Then if you do not understand the report to fix the bug for yourself, just post this stack in a similar or new ticket.
Anyway, latest release is underway.

Strange bug/feature in Transmission daemon 1.11+ (5651), every 30 minutes the Transmission daemon is restarted. Checking files takes >30 minutes, so it's in a continous loop......

Ehm you have to read posts above... 5651 is crashing ith core dumps. and every 30 minutes transmission-watchdog is fired, sees that transmissiond is not there and restarts it... then transmissiond coredumps again... and so on.
you have to downgrade to older version.

cp /opt/etc/transmission.conf /opt/etc/transmission.conf.bak
ipkg remove transmission
ipkg update
ipkg install transmission
cp /opt/etc/transmission.conf.bak /opt/etc/transmission.conf

I am running Transmission daemon 1.11+ (5693) for some time now, and it seems like stable with some CURL Invalid socket argument (8) messages that could be neglected. Will upgrade sometime anyway.

From different time I have noticed a strange thing in the operation of transmission.
I now write about the problem because I thought pits one problem of mine or a problem of my ISP. Instead no.
When I click on the button "scrape" I get for all torrents the error "xxx.torrent scrape failed".
I have also noticed that the speed of download is very lower: some week ago I download around 70k-90k, now I download around 10-30k.
Does someone know how to help me?

Problem solved.
NTP client is ok, but solution is: zeroize the /opt/var/log/syslog.log
Possible there was some broken data. After zeroize transmission works fine.

I`m now using Transmission 1.22 on a WL-500gP V2.
A friend told me to use rTorrent because it runs faster (download & upload) than Transmission. What`s your opinion ? Should I remove Transmission ? Is there anything else to "clean" (remove/change) before installing rTorrent ?

i am using transmission since version 0.82 or earlier from what i remember. i never felt the need to try another torrent program.i am primarily downloading music and at every time there are 150-200 torrents seeding, so ... +1 for transmission from me.
