Bekijk de volledige versie : USB to IDE converter with 2 harddisks?
I was wondering if its possible to attach 2 harddisks on to a single USB to IDE converter (The ones that can be found in external USB casings).
I've search Google and checked some of the chipset manufacturers websites, but I can't find any info there. Does anybody here have a clue?

I believe it is possible yes..
unfortunately my casing with the 160gb has a detacheble IDE cable
but my 3,5inch casing do have a hardmodded ide connector.. so I'm not going to try it out now as it is a production drive
I will try when wl500gx comes available..
Yes, should be possible. Normally your IDE adapter should accept two drives in master / slave config.
These boxes are also available commercially, some even come with integrated RAID solutions. Some examples:

@Antiloop:
I will give it a try then, first I have to order some HD's...
@Brubber:
Have you seen those prices :eek: Way too expensive, except perhaps for the 40$ part...
BTW: I've found this thing at last, for 14,-- Euro its a reasonable price :)

Yes I've noted the prices, however one them (the first) is a full enclosure for 89$ which is not to expensive I think. Just think of it connected to a USB 2.0 port on a WL-500gx
The dongle is very cheap. "That'sIT" sells the same thing for Euro 27.50!! http://www.nowthatsit.nl/?itemtype_id=2328&categorie_id=136. However when using such a dongle you will probably also need a 40 pin male/male connector if you want to attach two hdd, and ofcourse you're not sure that it will work. The 89$ thing will probably work out of the box.
Hi
I´m not sure if two HD´s work on one USB-IDE converter. My Mapower case with Genesys chipset does not. IMHO the USB mass storage class can only take one drive per ID, since it enumerates to a virtual scsi controller.
This case with Raid can have a hardware level-1 Raid which is not visible to the host... but try it, im interrested :)
