Guys, I'm thinking of removing LPR printing from the custom firmwares once again. Flash space is limited...
So, please vote here, I need a feedback on this.
If you vote for LPR then please post your success/unsuccess story here.
Also, be sure that you've configured RAW in the described at the printing how-to page.

Be sure that you use 1.8.1.7-3 firmware

I never used LPR printing with HP Deskjet 720C, so I don't mind losing LPR...

I 'm actually quite happy with old firmware 1.6.5.3. It's very stable and everything works flawlessly.

Setting up printing on W98, W98SE and WXP pro was very easy and printing works flawlessly. Even printing very large tiff files or big 100 page docs with lots of pictures give me no problem. Never tried printing from different stations at the same time though.

If RAW printing is as easy to set up as LPR on W98, W98SE and WXp Pro you can skip LPR support as far as I 'm concerned.

The only reasons for me to upgrade would be;

- A really good QoS that allows me to assign flexible bandwith to different IP's for specific types of traffic / port ranges; for example IP1 gets 50% to max, IP2 gets 25% to max IP3 gets 10% to max and IP4 gets 15% to max for WAN traffic; each IP gets 25% to max for LAN traffic; ....and so on

- Significant increase of througput.

Is it USB or parallel port printer?

Both is possible but actually parallel

never tried with USB, because I dont want to sacrify the USB port

Well, have you tried installing RAW in this way - installing printer locally, then changing a port from LPT1 to newely created Standard TCP/IP port, specifying RAW and 9101? If so, do you've anything in the wl500g logs?
Do not use ASUS utilities for installation, do not reuse printer, which is already configured by ASUS utilities, create new instance.
This probably just misconfiguration, it should work with RAW.

I do not get my HP-Deskjet 840C to work with RAW. With LPR it works perfect!

Can't change my vote, however using this tool:

ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/networking/software/hpspm98.exe

You can setup a standard TCP / IP port on W98 similar to W2K without use of the ASUS tool to setup a remote port. It works fine for the LPR printing, so I guess RAW will also be no problem.

Why it does not work?
Do you've anything in the wl500g logs?
Also, see above my recomendations for configuring it.

HI!

I dont need LPR, cause I use two Printers (HP LaserJet 5L on LPT, HP DeskJet 840c on USB). It works fine. But on printing big files on DJ840c, it print half-page and the other half-page on a seperate paper.

Hello,

i can not use the RAW mode. My printer (HP LJ 4L) works only in LPR mode
with the original ASUS firmware. With the 1.8.1.7-3 firmware, i can not print.
The job go in printing status, then in error status and after that starts the
job again..... (RAW mode).

I suppose it use LPT port, right? Which port you've specified for the RAW? This should be 9101 for LPT, please check on this. Also, be sure to REBOOT your PC box then changing something.
If this does not help, then post wl500g log here.

Thank's for the fast answer.
Yes, the printer use the LPT port. I will check the port setting for RAW and
post here the test result.

RAW printing is now possible. Set port to 9101 solved the problem.
