Hy,

I was convinced my router was slow while downloading torrents because of my flashdrive write speed but now I think I figured out why: it's the lack of DHT support on enhanced-ctorrent.

I know Azureus has DHT so that's why the download speed is vastly superior.

But I'm trying to get rid of the download PC and replace it with the router only.

So: what other torrent clients are there for Asus WL500GP that have DHT (they work tracker-less) ?

BTW: ipkg list | grep torr only gives me (enhanced-)ctorrent, transmission and py-bittorent. Anything else ?

AFAIK there is none at the moment

BTW probably you use an old unslung repository. You might want to switch to a new one (optware), because you miss at least rtorrent which is (IMHO) the best client available for this box.

This is my /etc/ipkg.conf:

src wl500g http://wl500g.dyndns.org/ipkg
dest root /

What's the URL for the other repository (can I use more than 1?) ?

About the DHT, could I at least compile my own version from some trunk ? I don't mind spending half a day crosscompiling stuff but I want to see if I'm facing a hardware limitation or software (most likely). Not to mention the router is almost useless without DHT.

Assuming you have Oleg's fw, you have version below 8. If so, the repository is located in /opt/etc/ipkg.conf Version 8 uses this repository by default.

The correct content of /opt/etc/ipkg.conf is:

src optware http://ipkg.nslu2-linux.org/feeds/optware/oleg/cross/stable
dest /opt/ /

However, you'll have to reinstall all the packages because they can not be mixed. See, e.g. here:
http://wl500g.info/showpost.php?p=60932&postcount=3

You might also want to have a look on the rtorrent web site. They claim to have dht support in the latest svn version available. However, AFAIK it's not yet delivered to our routers.

Not to mention the router is almost useless without DHT.
:) Router is router. The stuff we are putting on it is not related to routing at all. :)

Thanks for the links, I'll try and update my firmware (yes, I have Oleg).

Hopefully soon we'll have DHT working (maybe I'll give a try to cross-compile it myself).

Indeed, a router is a router but "my" router was especially bought with downloads in mind (thus getting rid of another PC) :D
