Bekijk de volledige versie : WL-500g: Channels 12-14?

I'm trying to create a WLAN bridge to my ISP's accesspoint with my WL-500g.
The big problem is that this AP runs on channel 13.
Hidden somewhere in the manual I found a small notice that channels 12 to 14 are not used in the US and are therefore not supported in Europe (what a nonsense!).
Given the fact that my ISP won't change the channel of his AP just because of me is there any way that I can teach my router to use channels 12-14 or do I have to buy a router that is designed for the european market?

Thanks a lot for help

Damien

in europe you can just use channel 13 fine..
channel 14 is not allowed to be used in europe, this may be used in asian regions

set your time zone correctly please, then you should be able to choose channel 13 (I can choose them?!)

please also tell us in what region you reside

The region is germany and I can't choose channel 13. The timezone is properly set, firmware version is 1.8.1.9

I'm running firmware 1.8.1.7-2 and I'm also not able to select channel 12 or higher. (time zone set to GMT+1) I haven't tried firmware rev 3.....

Just to let you know :)

Edit: just tried, same for 1.8.1.7-3

Thanks, at least I know that I'm not too stupid to handle the router.

Btw: The support contact form on the website isn't a help either. You can't fill in your problem without entering values you just don't possess (how should I know the firmware version and chipset driver of my ISP's AP?! You can't select a foreign manufacturer's product as remote station etc.).
Plausibility checks are a great help if you implement them properly but the way they are used here is merely annoying.

I 'm running firmware 1.6.5.3 and I can select channels 1 - 13.

Maybe something changed in the webinterface?

If this is the problem it probably possible to find another way to set the channel (telnet, hidden admin page)

 stupid me..

anyway you ARE right..as brubber says in 1.6.5.3 (and up thus) you can select channel 13..

at 1.8.1.7-1pre2 I cannot select channel 12 or 13 as well
I'll try to have a look into this tonight for you, please be patient
(and yes it can be fixed by doing some commands through telnet afaik)

@Antiloop: thanks a lot, I'll do my very best ;)

I hope there is an easier way to set the channels than installing a telnet access. I had a quick look at the installation guide and it does not seem that easy

hm?

you just have to upgrade to a custom firmware, and whoila telnet is activated ;)

just wait a bit and i'll come back to this issue

yes I did now..
ehm..

I was just checking stuff, and found out that my testing unit (second wl500g) has the ability to use channel 1 - 13 !?!?! and running custom firmware 1.8.1.7-3

I have found what is causing the problem, and perhaps it should be possible to change this by using telnet or the hidden admin page

the problem is caused by this nvram value:

regulation_domain=0X30DE
regulation_domain=0X10US

go to: http://my.router/Main_AdmStatus_Content.asp

enter those values:
step1:

nvram set regulation_domain=0X30DE and press the REFRESH button
NO results will be shown

step2:

nvram get regulation_domain and press the REFRESH button
confirm that the value is 0X30DE otherwise repeat step 1

step3:

nvram commit and press the REFRESH button

step4:

reboot and press the REFRESH button

step5: confirm that you can select channels up to 13

you can perform the same commands in telnet interface too

Isn't this controlled by the time-zone setting in the webinterface? If local laws prohibit the use of certain channels it would be the best place to put those settings behind the time-zone configuration. In this case, if you want to use a special channel, you just change to another timezone and...

in the past it was AFAIK, currently it depends on the RDOM (regulatory domain)
both of my WL500g's are at same timezone, I changed one unit to use the US regulatory and it was not able to select channels higher than 11.

when Asus repairs your WL500g, they rewrite your old MAC address with a special program, and the RDOM is rewritten with a special program

so I guess my (first) unit wasn't supposed to be sold in europe or they made an error

So, is there any way to change my unit to channel 13? I paid 75€ for a product that does not work.
The support did not yet reply to my mail nor was I able to fix the problem by myself.
Is there a custom firmware that allows me to select the appropriate channel? Even a Beta-Version would be ok as long as I can access the internet from home and am no longer limited to the account at work.

OMG, I hope its because its still early monday morning but just read the post from Antiloop above......

Eh?
I wrote in my second post that I cannot change to channel 13 although my timezone is properly set to zone Germany.
So what do you think I shall do? Send that thing back to ASUS and hope that they would find the time to set it to the RDOM it should have been set to when I bought it?

to say it another way, asus -could-(but they will not in almost all cases) even refuse you to give you warranty
as Firmware upgrades are not egliable for warranty request as long as Asus did not request YOU to upgrade
so why send it back?

if you downgrade to the default firmware where it came with, you can select channel 13

anyway

read this post:
http://wl500g.info/showpost.php?p=7333&postcount=12

it is VERY clearly explained how to fix it yourselve
if you don't understand it fine, but please tell me then.

time involved for performing those commands is 1-5 minute(s) or something

Pardon me, I read the first version of Antiloop's answer. He did not have the time to look at it then and I skipped that part of the page because I did not think that it changed.

Hell! I'm in Europe, have bought 2 WL-300g's and am unable to select channels 12 or 13 on any of them! If I were in the US, this would be understandible, but...
How can I make all 13 channels available on these devices? Or is this hard-coded somehow?
