I have problem with this router Asus 500g, anybody help me ! Please !!!

LAN IP: 192.168.1.1 (ASUS-router), Ftp-server have the samme IP as router.
WAN IP: Dynamic 81.53.224.9 (ADSL-Modem)
From Virtual server config I enable ftp-server 192.168.1.1 with port range 20:21

Everything works well on local network, I can ping, ftp, http to IP on router f.exp: 192.168.1.1
and I can also ping, ftp, http to WAN-ip f.exp: 81.53.224.9

But I can not contact, ping, ftp, http from outside

Please help me !

What about your Internet Firewall settings? If you have the WAN-LAN filtering enabled, you need to fill-in the filtering tables properly.
It could be also possible that your ADSL provider is running some firewall as well (try to connect your ADSL modem to workstation directly - without WL-500g and test the PING again)

I do not think you have to enable the virtual server. Your router is smart enough to understand that, if you configure the FTP server, you need also to listen the ports 20:21...

what do you mean by FTP-Server ? the BUILT-IN ftp server of the Asus WL500g or an Standalone FTP Server (e.g. another PC) ?

i think you are misunderstanding some things.

did you already follow the Howto Setup FTP in the HTT Forum ?

if you mean the built-in ftp server you do NOT need to enable port filter/virtual server or things like that

and are you able to setup FTP with no WL500g between your ADSL-Modem and your pc ?
if that does NOT work, you won't be able to setup FTP at port 21
because as said before your provider is probably blocking it or your ADSL-Modem

Thanks everybody !

I mean I setup the built in ftpserver. (30Mb-Usb-disk on router)
I don't use Internet Firewall settings. This feature is disable.

I just enable virtual server and put 192.168.1.1 with port range 20:21

Now, I follow your instruction to disable virtual server... but nothing better.

I think maybe my Modem or my ISP blocks access to it ...
I will try to setup ftpserver on my PC and connect direct with my modem ...(I don't know I can
do it well.. I'm not a networkingsnerd... )

You can also ask a technical support person of your provider - they should know about possible blocking.

Are you sure that your Key is recognized by the Asus WL500g ?
If the router has successfully mounted the device, you will see a newly created ftp_pub directory.

You may also use the hacked firmware and browse the /mnt/usbfs directory : It is your USB key.

I had success config a Ftp server-software on my PC, and I connect direct to adsl-Modem (speedtouch). Evrything works well, my sister from internet can connect, and we made som files-transfer well. She can ping to my IP-adresse.

But if again, I connect Asus router to Modem, and my PC to router, Usb-disk to router. Internet is ok, but FTP-function and Ping from outside not able to access.

Config of the asus-router is the same like last post.
My router have the last update from asus.

I think, something is disable from the router, strange... Should I return the router ?

PS: I can see my ftp-server from inside, local-net, transfer files from and to usb-disk(ftp-server) is ok.

Strange... I can't test it at the moment on my device but I would not say the router is bad. There must be some wrong settings. In 1.6.5.3 firmware you have choice to disable PING from WAN (IP Config - Miscellaneous) - did you check that option? Also check if the WEB access is allowed from WAN on the same configuration page and use the specified port in web browser to connect the router. There's a good example in Manual (http://www.asus.com.tw/support/download/selectftp.aspx?l1_id=11&l2_id=2&l3_id=0&m_id=4&f_name=Eng_pdf_E1485.zip~zaqwedc).
For FTP access I would try to put your workstation to Virtual DMZ.

Another tip: try
this (http://scan.sygate.com/stealthscan.html) on-line test to show if the necessary ports are listening. You have to make them open for incoming connections (be VERY carefull, if you get online, you can expect first attacker in few minutes... ).

It works for me now ! What's wrong ? I really don't know ! I just reset both modem and router and try another usb-disk.
