According to the VT6202 datasheet (http://pdf1.alldatasheet.com/datasheet-pdf/view/168652/ETC/VT6202.html) (whose pinout looks very similar to the VT6212L), this chip provides 4 USB ports (as mentioned in the characteristics, anyway).

Out of these, only 2 ports are available externally in the WL-500gP, though...

It looks like these are ports USB1 & 2 (check the traces):
- pin 81: USBP2-
- pin 82: USBP2+
- pin 85: USBP1-
- pin 86: USBP1+

The 2 other ones are:
- pin 73: USBP4-
- pin 74: USBP4+
- pin 77: USBP3-
- pin 78: USBP3+

It should be possible (although a delicate operation...) to use these by unsoldering these pins and lifting them up to get access to 2 more USB ports...

It's a shame that Asus didn't provided pads for these:(

You're right, this idea was already tested several times, e.g. here:

Just remember to add 2 pull-up 15K resistors for both datalines, and get somewhere on the board +5V and GND.

Finally, care should be taken to avoid overall overpowering of the scheme by external devices.

The topic I showed you is mainly about upgrade of memory to 128Mb, so there is not much info about USB there anyway.
However, there are some pictures there, which I showed you, more as 'encouraging' : yes it is already tested, yes it works.

am I able to use these two USB extentions with the original Firmware?
Or do I have to move?

And about the power... is it possible to arrange an external 5VDC to the two usb extentions without using any 5VDC from the Asus wl500gp?
Or does the Asus need the 5V to accept the two additional usb devices? - or just the two datalines?

Here's my $0.02:
If you're thinking about externally powering the USB ports, why not just go to the store and get yourself a USB hub. They usually have a dedicated power supply, which leaves you with not 4, but 5 USB ports, of which 4 will have external power. Estimated cost: €7 and no chance of blowing up your Asus.
Again, that's just my 2 cents.

You forget about a lot of problems with USB hub & Linux kernel 2.4 used in our FW. Most of they rely to USB 1.1 & 1.0 devices via 2.0 hub.

You've got a point there, but there are plenty of hubs that will work, check the Compatible Hardware (http://wl500g.info/showthread.php?t=64) section, even the Sitecom, Trust and Lidl (SilverCrest, Typhoon) ones will work.

In fact, you've triggered me ;) I think I have a SilverCrest laying around the house somewhere, I'm going to try it.

Turns out that it's a 4 port hub by Medion. And it works.
I'll have it added to the Compatible Hardware section.

Possible, you didn't understand me right. All known hubs itself - is compatible, but many devices will not work via hub!. Just seek forum for "usb hub" problem with usb-serial,printers,webcam,ups, etc. devices.

Some problems was solved in our 1.9.2.7-d (http://wl500g.googlecode.com/) firmware, but problems with USB 1.0 & some webcam devices still remain.

Oh ok, now I see. Of course, I can't read any Russian at all, so 90% of this forum is a mystery to me. But you're right, I tested it with a USB2.0 device connected. In fact, I don't think I have any more USB1.x device in the house to test it with.

Anyway, I thought I'd mention it for keuleeule, since that reminded me a lot of a regular usb hub. Just give it a try.

Whats about the flash? Is it working with original Software or do the Wl500gP need a self compiled upgrade to use all 4 USB - or of course that hub?

No need, it will work with any firmware.
