i'm replacing a Linksys WAP54G with a WL-500G (in AP mode). I've noticed that the WAP54G has the better figures for Range (and throughput).
How to improve the WL-500G?
I'm using the WL-500G firmwares with the power output setting and have tried from default to 84.

You'll have to fiddle with the power output settings to find your optimum. The highest output does not nessesarily mean you'll have the best connection.

Using a better antenna with a higher gain will improve your range considerably.

Anyone knows a shop with antenna's for the Wl-500G around Eindhoven, Holland.

I thought the Linksys and ASUS were similar. What can be the case for this difference?

In this topic on GOT, there are some reports of ppl using different antenna's (Warning: Dutch language only!): http://gathering.tweakers.net/forum/list_messages/907277

The most important thing is that the router uses a Reverse-SMA connector.

For shops you can try your local electronics store...
