Bekijk de volledige versie : Losing LAN connection and rebooting again and again
Hi,
After my first firmware upgrade (WL500g-1.9.2.7-7g.trx), my ASUS WL500G Deluxe is not stable anymore.
(It was impossible to load WL500gx-1.9.2.7-7g.trx : "unnamed file not found")
The boot seems to behave correctly, PWR & AIR leds are consistently on.
Then after a short period of time all leds switch on, and the router switches off all LAN connections, then reestablishes them on.
(Not sure the router is effectively rebooting)
Tried to go back to previous firmwares, same problem.
Before this first upgrade, the situation was correct (firmware 1.8.1).
What to do?
Olivier
(It was impossible to load WL500gx-1.9.2.7-7g.trx : "unnamed file not found")
After more research, I downloaded WL500gx_1960_EN.zip from ASUS official website, and updated the firmware.
Now the router is working. I'll see whether the problem lies in the hardware this evening.
Guess I shouldn't have used anything else than WL500gx images.
Suggestion
- It would be nice to explain WL500gx, gE, gP for newbies in Oleg page ;)
Remaining problems :
- why this cyclic behaviour?
- "unnamed file not found"?
Next step : try to use Oleg's work.
Kind Regards
Olivier
It is not a hardware problem.
You are right wl500gx = deluxe.
It is definitely written somewhere, but there is a little too much information available, so sometimes you may miss some useful point. My own experience was: familiarize myself with the info on this forum (probably it took a couple of weeks), only after that I actually bought a device :) and started experiments.
>why this cyclic behaviour?
If you flash a wrong firmware, the result is undefined.
Just as a guess: kernel panic with auto-reboot following. Similar behavior is sometimes observed in windows nt5. The typical reason in this case is corruption of some important system file on hdd.
>"unnamed file not found"?
May be re-download fw-file?

It is not a hardware problem.
first reflash with wl500g-clean-nvram.trx to reset settings
afterwards reflash the latest firmware:

Excellent!! :D
My box is now running the latest firmware! I like it very much!
Thanks to jaapjeuk and al37919 for your answers. Initially, had found the procedures for upgrading, but was temporarily stuck due to user issues and lack of time (see below).
I like seeing the linux kernel logs under system log :)
I like the new printer options :)
I like the telnet access :)
I like the samba & nfs access :)
Really there is a big gap between Asus work and this firmware!
Cheers!!

To start contributing, here is the list of problems found:
- the reset button is weak, had to change it.
- the firmware restoration tool doesn't work with WL500gx-1.9.2.7-7g.trx ('unnamed file not found'). A tftp transfer makes it. (Tried to download with IE & Firefox, and to unzip with Windows & 7Zip, all transfers and unzips were correct.) Haven't analyzed this problem yet.
- if you look at the existing upgrade procedures, the tftp is not followed by a reboot. The reboot is manual.
- Seems there is no need to use wl500g-recover.trx in the upgrade instructions.
- after upgrade the GMT zone was GMT+11 instead of GMT+1. (This problem is hidden if you setup a timeserver client.)
