There are some threads about this topic but nothing helps.
Here are some setup details from the router:

IP-Settings:
-NTP-Server is set but I can't delete the server!
-DDNS is disabled, but the server adress is set.

Internet-Firewall-Settings:
-Firewall enabled
-Logged packets type: None
-Enable Web Access from WAN: No
-Port of Web Access from WAN: 8080
-Respond LPR Request from WAN: No
-Respond Ping Request from WAN: No

WAN & LAN Filter
-Enable LAN to WAN Filter: No
-Packets(LAN to WAN) not specified will be: Accept
-Filtered ICMP(LAN to WAN) packet types: None!
-LAN to WAN Filter Table: No entry

Can anyone help me?
I hope you have any hint for me!

Many greetings from germany (Duisburg).

ehm.. ok.

thus what is the problem?
my router is always on untill I turn it off?

and I would throw it out of the window if it would take my internet offline when my pc's are offline

Hi Antiloop,

sorry, but i don't have a flatrate! :-(
Is it possible to configure the router in a way that it disconnects after 5 minutes idle time?

I hope anyone can help me to decrease my online costs.
Thank you very much!

use the search..

it doesn't seem to work
afaik it will only work(if it works) at ADSL (you didn't state what you are using)

Hello Memurubu!

I have the same problem: the router stays online (DSL) even if set to do otherwise. There is no solution to the problem that I know of.

At the moment I do have a flat rate, however that will change in a few weeks and I am getting quite pi****, frankly, that Asus has not yet come up with a solution. Included that silly "tx-only" option that doesn't help at all...

A "home gateway" should really be able to cut the DSL connection after a specified amount of idle time! After all, not everyone has a flat rate. And even if, what if I don't want my network to be exposed to the evil forces of the dark side of the 'net all the time? All routers that I had before could do it. And I will make sure my next one can!

Memuburu, could you please contact the international (english) support via web and tell them our problem. Make them aware that there are people who do want that feature. I have already done so. Perhaps we can achieve something and Asus will put it on their (long!) list of things to fix...

Jabu.

Ever considered that this may be a modem (setting) problem?

Possibly if you post all relevant (router IP settings, router mode, modem brand, type firmware and settings, connection type) settings someone may come up with a sensible answer.

Why don't you have the modem cut the connection??

Does anybody know what physically happens if the router tries to terminate the connection? Does it send a signal to the modem?

How do you know your connection stays alive? (logs?)
