I want to play with oleg's buid but I need to know if I can install and run rtorrent on it.

yes , rtorrent works
you will have to set up the ipkg installer thing...
you have to hook it to the nslu2 package listing, there is a section for oleg..
ipkg install rtorrent
will install it

With some work I managed to install rtorrent and is running now, although I didn't have time to test it.
