Hi,
I'm hoping someone can help me with a simple question.
I suspect it's more to do with my XP settings than the Asus 700gE (no custom firmware yet, just the default 1.0.4.6).

I can access my share folders from the web browser or http://192.168.1.1/shares/MYSHARE1/
but not from Windows.
I can see the wl700ge in "Workgroup" but I get an error message "\\wl700ge is not accessible. You may not have permission to use this network resource... The network path was not found."

I've tried a bunch of options in the "Share Management". UBSA is enabled, a user name has been created (with a password) which matches the user name of the PC, and also one which matches the PC name.

The EZSetup utility has failed too. It set up wireless and ISP connection OK, but gave me an error message when it tried to map a network folder.

Does anyone have any suggestions? I've trawled the forums quite thoroughly.

Thanks,

Michael

you could try \\192.168.1.1\MYSHARE1 to connect to the MYSHARE1 share.

did you enable CIFS access ( in general and for MYSHARE1 ) ?
that's what's needed for networking with Windoze XP.

Yes, CIFS has been enabled, in general and for the share.

I can get to it via http://192.168.1.1/shares/MYSHARE1 but still not via Windows Explorer, have tried pretty much every combination I can think of.

Hi,

I've tried a few other things:
I'm a Linux newbie, but I downloaded a version of Knoppix, thinking that would be a way to narrow the problem down to whether it's with the Asus or my PC.
I was able to use the smb://192.168.1.1 to view the Asus box easily.

From Windows, I can log in via ftp as well as http, but not by the normal network browsing.

I know it's a problem with my PC's network config. I'm probably about at the stage of doing a reformat of the PC (overdue anyway) as a last resort.

Any more ideas?

Thanks,

Michael

Easy solution finally!

It was my ZoneAlarm firewall preventing access.

Just had to add 192.168.1.1 to the trusted zone and it all works fine!

Hi Everybody,

I am suffering from same problem, I can access my router via http://192.168.1.1 and via FTP, but I am not able to access that with Windows sharing.

I do not use firewall. Any idea? Please, help me.
