This is an incredibly newbie question, but after 2 days of pulling my hair out, I can't figure it out by myself. I also couldn't find anything in the forum that helped.
I have had the WL500G for several years using it just as a AP (which works like a champ). Now I want to use it to replace my proxy server (WinProxy) for DSL access on my home network. I have ATT DSL with an old Alcatel SpeedTouch Home modem. I have been using EnterNet300 with Win98SE & WinProxy for years with no technical problems. The modem & EnterNet300 work fine.
I hooked up the WL500G WAN port to the modem and got a WAN connection light. I went through the quick setup but was not able to get out to the internet. Here are some specifics:
H/W WL500G Ver 1.0
F/W 1.6.5.3
B/L 2.2
Quick Setup
Mode = Home Gateway
Connection Type = ADSL
Connect w/ Static IP = No
UserName & Password same as in EnterNet300
Get IP Automatically = Yes
IP CONFIG
WAN Connection Type = PPPoE
No Special ISP requirements
IP = Grayed out, contains LAN side fixed IP
Subnet = Grayed out, contanes LAN side fixed subnet
WAN DNS Automatic = Yes
I have the LAN IP set to fixed IPs and notice that when I look at the WAN IP Setting page the IP & SubNet mask boxes are grayed out but have the LAN side values. I have tried manually setting these to blanks, but upon reset the LAN side values are restored.
After restarting the WL500 and/or the modem multiple times I looked at the WAN Interface Status and the boxes are blank. The Link is Disconnected and the two buttons are grayed out. Also the System Log is blank.
It looks like the WAN feature is disabled and I can't figure out how to enable it.
Suggestions?
