I think you can follow 2 approaches

1) Connect the asus directly to internet and let it handle routing functionality.
(the asus has a built in modem, for which you have to configure you internet settings, and connect the 'internet' to the WAN port)

2) let your current modem control the routing and set up the asus as a 'switch' (For this, you have to set up the asus as 'Access point only' in the system configuration. But you will loose all routing capabilities off the asus if you do this. However, you gain an extra LAN-port, because the WAN port is in this setup threated as a normal LAN-port.

btw. this is well-documented in the manual

Hope this helps.
Good luck.

Dear MrRobo,

In my current setup (which is very similar to yours) I have my asus setup as Access Point (The 3rd option).

I have a speedtouch716 connected to the internet, which does my routing. The asus is setup as Access Point.

How to configure operation mode from the router's website:
System Setup->Operation Mode->Access Point (choose this one)

ip-configuration from the asus website:
IP Config->LAN->
1) give it a hostname.: eg.: WL500g
2) get ip-automatically: NO
3) ipadres: 192.168.1.2 (normally this would be 192.168.1.1. but this one is taken by your dcom
4) default gateway: 192.168.1.1 (this your dcom, which handles internet traffic)

Good luck !
