There is a prob with transmission.cgi hanging after loading some kb of the webinterface.
I didnt solve this until now because i have no idea where to start from.

If you use ctrl+c to exit lynx or close your browser the transmission.cgi is hanging and using 100% CPU.

killall transmission.cgi

will help...

wengi

PS: The download itself is working normaly...

Wengi,
Any update on the transmission issue?

Ah well, I'm now totally on your script wengi:)
I still got some modified parts to keep it running in my way.
I also used the firmware scsi mod.

now I have only one problem, I can''t get my FTP to working because I mount part3 as /mnt

this was the original script to let the ftp work:

#Mount for ftp
mount /dev/discs/disc0/part2 /tmp/mnt/disc0_2
mount /dev/discs/disc0/part3 /tmp/mnt/disc0_3

now I have this configuration:

#device Mountpoint FStype Options Dump Pass#
/dev/discs/disc0/part1 none swap sw 0 0
/dev/discs/disc0/part2 /opt ext3 rw,noatime 1 1
/dev/discs/disc0/part3 /mnt ext3 rw,noatime 1 1
/dev/discs/disc0/part2 /tmp/mnt/disc0_2 ext3 rw,noatime 1 1
/dev/discs/disc0/part3 /tmp/mnt/disc0_3 ext3 rw,noatime 1 1
/dev/discs/disc1/part1 /tmp/mnt/disc1 ext3 rw,noatime 1 1

I expect to use the same options as the other mounts, but it''s not working
The mounting stops at /tmp/mnt/disc0_2.

so I get this:

Filesystem 1k-blocks Used Available Use% Mounted on
/dev/root 3072 3072 0 100% /
/dev/discs/disc0/part2 3850320 294316 3360416 8% /opt
/dev/discs/disc0/part3 476331024 118224836 333909892 26% /mnt

there should be 2 ways to solve this problem:
1 - get the mounts right
2 - make the vsftpd work on /mnt and /opt

the 2nd option is just a giant mystery for me how to do it:p
it must be some nvram... but how do you know witch:confused:

thanks wengi for the scripts, they are working better than the old ones:)

Hi,

check your fstab! Why do you mount to /mnt?

If you can give me a clean description of what you want to be mounted to where i can give you advice...
Normaly the fstab of my howto should be ok for your config.

I didn't try the ftp but maybe the ftpd will not follow the symlink /tmp/harddisk.
Try to change the rootdir in the ftp config in a second step.

wengi

EDIT: No news on transmission.

As far as I know the ftpd won't start as long no harddrives are mounted on /tmp/mnt
it's a value that can not be changed in the web admin as far as I know.

ok:
I want to mount the opt partition to: /opt and /tmp/mnt/disc0_2
the data partition to: /mnt and /tmp/mnt/disc0_3
I mount the data partition to /mnt because it's shorter (and I'm a bit lazy:p)

and I showed you my fstab in the previous post, I tought it should be done like that;)

wengi

Can you mount the partitions by hand?

Try to create the directories
/tmp/mnt/disc0_2
/tmp/mnt/disc0_3
/tmp/mnt/disc1
before mounting.

As far as i know using fstab the process itself should create the dirs before mounting, but maybe i am wrong or there is a bug...?!

after the disc check in pre-boot I have now 2 mkdirs to create both ftp dirs:)
then I have in fstab the mountpoints and it works:D

Filesystem 1k-blocks Used Available Use% Mounted on
/dev/root 3072 3072 0 100% /
/dev/discs/disc0/part2 3850320 541052 3113680 15% /opt
/dev/discs/disc0/part3 476331024 118551016 333583712 26% /mnt
/dev/discs/disc0/part2 3850320 541052 3113680 15% /tmp/mnt/disc0_2
/dev/discs/disc0/part3 476331024 118551016 333583712 26% /tmp/mnt/disc0_3

a bit stupid that I couldn''t figure the mkidir myself out:o
well, it totally works now:)
I do think it scans the drives double now, but hey, then you''re sure no errors are left;)

Hi,

I just finished setting up WL500gP V2 + HDD using Wengi's tutorial, great job.
It was the first time i was working with linux, but following this tutorial, i'm starting to understand how linux works, so thanks for that too.

Firmware: Oleg 1.9.2.7-10
Followed steps: 1, 2, 3, 4a, 4b, 5

on this step i got this:

admin@WL-500gP root]$ wget http://ipkg.nslu2-linux.org/feeds/optware/oleg/cross/stable/ipkg-opt_0.99.163-9_mipsel.ipk
Connecting to ipkg.nslu2-linux.org[140.211.169.169]:80
wget: server returned error 404: HTTP/1.1 404 Not Found
[admin@WL-500gP root]$ ipkg.sh install ipkg-opt_0.99.163-9_mipsel.ipk
File not found ipkg-opt_0.99.163-9_mipsel.ipk

don't know if it can cause any problems

when running ipkg list_installed, i get:

[admin@blechbuechse ipkg]$ ipkg list_installed
ipkg-opt - 0.99.149-2 - The Itsy Package Manager
uclibc-opt - 0.9.28-13

on this step it was the only error

next steps: 8, 9, 10a - no errors

Now, i select the torrent for download, i have it in "source" dir, "Push" in transmission, i have it as ACTIVE, but nothing happens:confused:

Whan the torrent is active, the window looks like this:

THE MENU
/opt/share/www/cgi-bin/transmission.cgi: kill: 9: (4000) - No such process
OOo_2.4.1rc1_20080523_SolarisSparc_install_en-US.tar.gz started Start: 29 May 00:12 Active status

Unable to find recent transfer stats in syslog

00:12:23 up 41 min, load average: 0.24, 0.13, 0.08

If I select "Info" i get:

Not a regular file (/tmp/harddisk/torrent/work/OOo_2.4.1rc1_20080523_SolarisSparc_install_en-US.tar.gz/OOo_2.4.1rc1_20080523_SolarisSparc_install_en-US.tar.gz.torrent)

Maybe i did something wrong, the torrent is: OOo_2.4.1rc1_20080523_SolarisSparc_install_en-US.tar.gz.torrent, and it' working.

Thank you in advance!

PS: english is not my native language, so sorry for my writting mistakes :D

what kind of windows do you use?
do you have guest account activated?:rolleyes:

@bogd_A
if you get a wget error, try it again, if you get it again, wait an hour, the server might be offline.
I don''t know if you continued to install everything, that''s why transmission might be acting weird.
note that due to some recent updates on transmission some strange behaviour happens to some ppl:)

still doesn't work - the server is ok
what do you mean by installing everything? as i said after step step 10a everything showld be ok, meaninig i should have a working system.

PS I started the tutorial from scratch ... and the same result :(

ipkg-opt was updated on 24.05.2008:
http://nslu2-linux.dyoung-mirror.net/feeds/optware/oleg/cross/stable/ipkg-opt_0.99.163-10_mipsel.ipk

I will update the HowTo.

wengi

Edit:
@bogd_A:
You are on an very old ipkg-opt installation now. Do again the wget and install stuff of ipkg-opt. Do a "ipkg update && ipkg upgrade" after this.
I hope this will switch you to the new repositories. This will also update your transmission to 1.21.

That was the problem, now everything works as it should, thank you for your support.

But there is one small issue: as said by nunbaggi, when trying to remove from the webinterface, a downloaded torrent, I get "Can only remove suspended torrents! Edit transmission.conf to FORCE_REMOVE. "

In transmission.conf - Force_remove is set to "YES"
The status of downloadet torrent is "DONE"

As for SAMBA it's enabled from the router's webinterface.
Firmware: 1.9.2.7-10
Regarding samba I have another issue, I can acces souce, targhet, work from a Vista OS, but when trying to acces it from XP OS, i get a logon box with user: WL-500/guest, and password :(

I am not using the Force_remove. I use ssh or samba.
And i do not have a torrent to test this atm.

But read the help (Help button in WIf).
I think you have to press purge and remove. But maybe i am wrong....

Hi,

is /opt really full? Didnt think this is possible with ipkg packages. Or did you copy other stuff to /opt?

The other possibility is that the hdd has a prob. (e.g. bad sectors).
Did you try to use the alternative superblock?

The Torrents are in target dir, Remove (mark a torrent for removal) and Purge (delete the torrent and its file), can be used only for unfinished (suspended) torrents only, and that's why it didn't worked.

When I try to remove from samba I get: "You need permission to perform this action" - in VISTA OS
Can you tell me the command for delete using ssh?

And anothet issue:
I can't acces the torrent dir from a XP OS, only from Vista OS, can you help me?
In XP shows an logon window with use: WL-500gp\Guest, and password, nothing like this in Vista :confused:

For dropbear I needed to satisfy the following requirements.

Disable password access for remote connections
Open port 443 and 2222 for remote connections (443 for when 2222 is blocked)
Allow password access on local connections
Don't open up port 22 for remote connections

I found that you can run multiple dropbear servers and they will co-exist. Here is how I set it up.

[shinji@WL-001E8C3E002C sbin]$ cat post-boot
#! /bin/sh
dropbear -P /var/run/dropbear-local.pid

[shinji@WL-001E8C3E002C sbin]$ cat post-mount
#! /bin/sh
dropbear -b /opt/etc/motd -g -p 2222 -P /var/run/dropbear-remote.pid
/opt/etc/init.d/rc.unslung start

The first is for post-boot. The only additional parameter here is -P which defines the pid file location. I renamed it otherwise the second one will overwrite the first rather than appending to it.

The second is post-mount. Note that it could of been put in post-boot as well but I put something into the command line that needs a file from the external device. I will explain each part.

-b defines a banner file to present before login finishes. It will be shown after the username is sent and before the password is requested. It is set to /opt/etc/motd right now so it is on the mounted device. This switch is optional and can be left out. If it is removed then it is save to move the whole remaining command-line to post-boot instead.

-g disables password logins for the "root" user
-s disables password logins globally (all users)

-p defines a port to listen to. You can use this parameter up to 10 times.

Note that the password-less login bit only affects that server. The one running on port 22 still accepts a password so I can still access it locally even if I lose my key.

EDIT: I should add that I recently added a user for the purpose of sftp access by a remote website. I change the original -s to -g. It will still prompt for a password but it will flat out deny it. My sftp user has /opt/libexec/sftp-server setup as the shell so right now ssh brings up a blank screen that they can do nothing at. You can change the -g (in bold above) to -s and it will deny all password logins for that server process.

EDIT: Here is an alternative to the above setup. This is one I have been using lately. The advantage here is that both servers are running immediately and you don't have to wait for the drive to mount for the external one to be usable.

[shinji@WL-001E8C3DFF31 sbin]$ cat post-boot
#! /bin/sh
dropbear -P /var/run/dropbear-local.pid
dropbear -s -p 2222 -P /var/run/dropbear-remote.pid -b /etc/banner

Note I used a banner that is in the /etc folder. To keep it persistent between reboots you have to make sure to save it as part of your flashfs (instructions in the main post) by adding it to your /usr/local/.files file.

Now the firewall...

[shinji@WL-001E8C3E002C sbin]$ cat post-firewall
#! /bin/sh
iptables -D INPUT -j DROP
iptables -t nat -A PREROUTING -i vlan1 -p tcp --dport 443 -j DNAT --to-destination 192.168.1.1:2222
iptables -t nat -A PREROUTING -i vlan1 -p tcp --dport 2222 -j DNAT --to-destination 192.168.1.1:2222
iptables -A INPUT -p tcp -m tcp -d 192.168.1.1 --dport 2222 -j ACCEPT
iptables -A INPUT -j DROP

I set it up so that ports 443 and 2222 would be externally accessable. Note that they both route to the same server running on port 2222. 443 is only there for cases where I need to route through a strict firewall that only allows http, https, and standard ssh connections. If you changed the port number in the command for the second server then replace 2222 with your port number. If you don't want port 443 open then remove the line in bold.

If you setup everything right then you will see the following when you run ps axf (if you installed procps)

[shinji@WL-001E8C3E002C root]$ ps axf

Note the 2 dropbear servers running.

Right now if someone accesses the router remotely then they will get the following.

compton:/home/shinji257> ssh -o Port=2222 shinji@xx.xx.xx.xx
..:: Elite Systems Remote SSH Access ::..
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This is a restricted server.
Unauthorized access is strictly prohibited.
ALL CONNECTIONS ARE LOGGED.
Permission denied (publickey).
This would make it kinda fruitless to try to gain access that way unless there was an exploit for the dropbear server.
Hi Wengi!
Thx, 4 your answer.
"df" said that te part2is full.
I have discovered that transmission put temp datas there in /share/www dir.
the part3 seems to be working after 1 day OFF.
I turned on the hdd while router was was working.
Hello everyone :)
@MrPeeth:
transmission should not put temp data to /opt !!! Please check your transmission.conf. What is your work-directory?
Regarding the superblock you should read your own post :)
May 31 09:57:19 e2fsck: is corrupt, and you might try running e2fsck with an alternate superblock:
May 31 09:57:19 e2fsck: e2fsck -b 8193 <device>You should try
e2fsck -b 8193 /dev/discs/disc0/part2BUT: If you can access your data atm: Do a backup! I think your hdd has a prob!
@shinji257:
Thanks for these tips. I will link it in the howto. I am NOT able to test it....
@bogd_A:
You can e.g. use the rm command in the shell:
rm -rf /tmp/harddisk/torrent/target/nameofyourtorrentdir
Hi Wengi!
I read errors every where that is why I did not discover the message...
This is the result:
e2fsck: while trying to open /dev/discs/disc0/part2
The superblock could not be read or does not describe a correct ext2
filesystem. If the device is valid and it really contains an ext2
filesystem (and not swap or ufs or something else), then the superblock
is corrupt, and you might try running e2fsck with an alternate superblock:
e2fsck -b 8193 <device>
[admin@PSQ10 root]$
The log growth with many error line coz e2fsck...
The workingdir for the transmission is:
/tmp/harddisk/torrent
I can read my datas on part3 in linux, except the /part2.
What do you think about this: delete part2, and start with a new partition and install all programs again?
or save all datas, format and test the whole disc? :eek:
Thank:
Not a problem. I actually updated it a little. Mentioned what should be changed if they don't want to use port 2222 and/or 443 for the second server and also dropped in what ps should show if they installed procps. I put in bold a few key lines in the quoted areas.
reformating and reinstalling part2 should be the fastest way.
But, as i said, i recommend a data backup. Maybe your hdd has a prob....
Do you mean, only part2 need to be reformating?
Now I try to save all data on a winXP PC.
e2fsck program do bad sector test as well or there is an other linux program what I have to use for test my HDD?
Hi Wengi!
Thx for fast reply.
I run a linux recovery on part2.
There are torrent datas in : /opt/share/cgi-bin
There are many files over 40Mb-s. Do I had any wrong settings? That is why my part2 become.
The donloaded torrents are in /tmp/harddisk/torrent/work directory, normally.
I will try to run the bad sector test.
The man command is new for me as well. :o
Thx again:
MrPeeth
add:
the really big file was: /opt/var/log/message.0 -> 7847Mb
Any idea? :)
Now I cannot find the part3 in the partiton table...
Hi,
The growing of messages is the result of mixing scripts from my old and new howto.
Make sure that your files in /opt/etc/init.d/ are exactly as in my howto.
If you use an old syslog rc script it will grow your messages file until /opt is full....
If you saved all your data it would be the best to start all over again.
Now part2 is succesfully recovered.
But, part3 cannot discover by any windows prog. :(
Linux can detect part3 with wrong superblock...
I have some important datas on that partition, so I try to make some more step to save them.
Do you have any idea?
The part3 is almost 150Gb and it was nearly full.
Yes, it is ext3.
But you normaly use ext2 tools because ext3 = ext2 + journal.
Do some google search for "ext3 recover superblock".
As far as i know ext3 saves various superblocks at differentlocations...
i am not that experienced with file systems...
Hi all gurus,
I applied lots of these configuration to my ASUS fw, what is done by engy from Czech Rep. due to the support for CDMA/HSDPA devices.
Everything works for me, I installed Samba3 and now I'm able to access it on the address of the router on a port 901, but have a serious problem with Transmission, which doesn't work at all.
I applied a step-by-step tutorial from this thread, but my Transmission is probably not running, see my output from "ps axf" below:
i am not sure if the original firmware will accept the partitions made with oleg and my howto. No experience with this.
Maybe anyone else can help?
If yes:
- Control if transmission is paused. If yes -> press pause button.
- Press watchdog button to start deamon
Well, webinterface is accessible but there is an error:
From ps I understood it that transmission is not running, so than I pressed pause button and result is:
Transmission will eventually stop. Last Log line should report transmissiond exiting.
Hi,
"Unable to find recent transfer stats in syslog" is normal if you didnt dl torrents before.
It seems that transmission can not write to the WORK directory.
Check permissions of the WORK directory and have a look at your syslog for errors.
Hi,
Thanks for a tools you proposed me.
First thing I haven't known before - OK than.
Work is configured through chmod, I did it by collective command: chmod -R ugoa+w /tmp/harddisk/torrent
I found an article on http://www.nslu2-linux.org/wiki/Optware/Transmission and problem might be cause because my root account is not "admin/root", but "kubicz". I was trying to find to change something in "transmission.cgi" but without result!
Hi,
The download speed is very low on my wl 500gp V2 with 1.9.2.7-10 firmware. I followed wengi's guide for setting up my sistem (asus + HDD).
the same torrent: on pc I get 137 - 152kb/s and 34 peers dl from 11 (using uTorrent) and on asus I get 9 - 15kb/s and 5 peers dl from 2.
another torrent: on PC 1,3 - 2Mb/s 1194 peers dl from 36, and on asus .... 11 peers dl from 1 at 6.6 kb/s
What am I missing?
I have transmission setup without using admin for the username. Make sure to check the transmission_watchdog entry in the crontab file and change admin to your username. I also have transmission in a non-standard folder from the server so it doesn't appear to have anything hardcoded. It also worked fine downloading at 50KB/sec (I set that limit). The major thing I was concerned about is how the router would handle it. In the past I had issue with too many things running and torrents now so I didn't know how it would handle but it appears to have done fine last night.
Configuration:
IPv6 enabled (radvd is running)
Lighttpd server w/ php FCGI (eaccelerator enabled, 8080 external, 8081 internal)
2 SSH servers w/ SFTP (one internal -- one external)
Cron jobs
Transmission torrent client using Lighttpd for interface
A crap load of additional stuff including a, hopefully working, build environment. Memory is pretty much full but the system has been going over to swap as I had hoped.
The attached file is how I got cgi working in lighttpd (I know some had questions about it). Note that it only defines the .cgi extension. I assume that if you want to do .pl files as well you would install perl and add it to my file since it already enables mod_cgi. If you need additional information then you can always check the lighttpd docs @ http://trac.lighttpd.net/trac/wiki/Docs
This was probably not a reply to my post, because I can't use anything you written down there.
My crontab contains raw:
*/30 * * * * kubicz nice transmission_watchdog, but by "ps" command I see no transmission process running.
Will not change my admin account from "kubicz" to "admin", because I had to change settings in many apps I have on my ASUS.
I am using default busybox_httpd instead of an additional lighthttpd.
Your right. I must of been out of it that night. Anyways your crontab looks fine. It is working ok using a username other than admin for me as well. I actually run it in low priority too ( I won't go into detail). Here is the contents of the section of code that controls the log list.
# Show transfer log from log file
# Replace "transmissiond" with "transmission" if all logs are preferred
_log ()
{
if [ ! -r ${SYSLOG} ]; then
echo "<p>${SYSLOG} not readable. Properly configure syslogd at "
echo "<pre>"
echo "</pre>"
if [ ! -x ${GNUPLOT} ]; then
echo "<p>gnuplot: ${GNUPLOT} not found. Properly configure paths "
echo "in transmission.conf for transfer graphing!</p>"
return
fi
echo "<p>Creating graph...</p>"
TZO=${TIMEZONE_OFFSET:-0}
cat > ${GNUPLOT_COMMAND} << __EOF__
set terminal png small size 800,320
set output '${GNUPLOT_OUTPUT}'
set xdata time
set timefmt "%s"
set format x "%H:%M\n%m/%d"
set ytics nomirror
set y2tics nomirror
set y2range [0:]
set ylabel "Transmission transfer rate [kB/s]"
set y2label "System load (5 min average)"
set y2tics 1
set xlabel "Time [UTC ${TZO} seconds]"
plot '${GNUPLOT_DATA}' using (\$1+86400+${TZO}):2 title 'download' axis x1y1 with impulses, \
quit
__EOF__
${GNUPLOT} ${GNUPLOT_COMMAND}
echo "<img src=\"${HTTP_IMG_LOCATION}\">"
}
Note the lines in bold.
The first one calls sed and parses the system log. Looks like GNUPLOT_DATA may not be set. Also the same goes for the second one but instead referring to GNUPLOT_COMMAND. Give me a sec and I'll rig up the function with some debug lines to see what those settings are being recorded as. Maybe even show us the command lines that are being attempted.
EDIT: I've rigged up the _log() function with echo lines that will output the current value of the variables used in this function as well as the command lines as they are being executed. I did not bother to echo back the contents of the file that was being created yet. I can always add that. I did check and the file works fine even with these lines added.
Anyways backup your current copy of transmission.cgi and use the one that is attached instead. Try checking the Log area then copy and paste in the bolded lines in the file. These are the ones that I need to see what might be wrong.
P.S. - I could probably do this all over the place if I really wanted to. I kinda got used to the way the script is coded and can get around pretty easily now. Oleg did a good job organizing it.
Ok guys. I am going to setup a secure openssh configuration similar to the dropbear one and I'll post the details here. Right off the bat you would want the following packages installed (plus dependencies).
openssh
openssh-sftp-server
scponly
I'll also cover doing a chroot configuration for scponly using scponlyc. I think I have the chroot environment already however it doesn't appear to work with dropbear. It drops the connection when it tries to chroot. :(
This is a directory listing of my chroot environment. In includes the vital items including their current working location. It was generated from my current tar archive that I will use to recreate it every time the router reboots. Currently it has dropbear instead of openssh in it. This will change once I have openssh working. The nice thing with openssh is that I should be able to re-create my current setup (2 ports -- 2 different configurations) with one sshd server and one sshd_config file. Hopefully.
Hi,
transmission is not started directly after restart. It normaly depends on the cron entry. E.g. if the watchdog is started hourly, transmission will be started the next full hour after thr reboot.
If you want to start it directly after the reboot: Add transmission_watchdog to your post-boot.
Hi,
I have transmission_watchdog in post-boot, but it doesn't start after reboot :(
And some questions:
- If i have a power loss, when the power comes back againt, transmission won't start automaticaly, it is normal?
- Has Samba 2 (ipkg) has issues with VISTA?
- It is possible to have instead of "listening_port" somethink like "port_range", in transmission? I hope that in this way the download speed could increase, by accesing not only one defined port.
- What is the best way, and first the safest, for accesing files, stored on my hdd, attached on wl 500 gp, from wan?
Thank you
Hi Everybody,
I was tried to install Oleg custom firmware v1.9.2.7-10 on my WL-700gE, but I could not, always appears this error message:
"An error was detecting during the upgrade.
The firmware has NOT been succesfully changed."
What can cause this error?
Never had this before. Make sure you have the right firmware and try the asus recovery tool.
@bogd_A:
- if watchdog is in post-boot and transmission is not paused: It should be started on reboot.
- As far as i know the newest samba2 works with vista. But i don't have vista.. But you could use the samba integrated with olegs -10 and up. He fixed the vista issues in the orig firm. see changelog.
- transmission uses only one port. As far as i know this is by design. oleo is your man for further questions.
- the most secure way is ssh/scp. Also sftp is secure. I use ssh and winscp from wan.
I have watchdog in post-boot, it is not paused but won't start on reboot, I'll recheck when i'll get back home -
It will not start at reboot
As for samba, I like in samba 2 the feature of password protected folders, and this is what it is not working with VISTA, if i don't password protect folders it works, but on XP I can't acces shared folders, not with integrated samba or samba 2 - i get a logon window, with user: name_of_ASUS\guest - not editable and password: and nothing works.
It is a way of pasword protect folders using samba integrated in oleg's firmware, and do you have a solution for the XP acces?
About transmission, it is normal to do:
Jun 16 20:49:27 transmission_watchdog: Transmission daemon restarted!
Jun 16 20:00:10 transmission_watchdog: Transmission daemon restarted!
Jun 16 18:00:10 transmission_watchdog: Transmission daemon restarted!
Jun 16 14:00:10 transmission_watchdog: Transmission daemon restarted!
Jun 16 10:30:15 transmission_watchdog: Transmission daemon restarted!
but the roter wasn't restarted, and it wasn't the case of a power loss, after restart of transmission_watcdog i get Checking files ... and it takes a long time to do this.
And finaly about the speed in transmission, at upload I have speeds of 120 - 400kb/s (after setting UPLOAD_SPEED=41 I get 41kb/s - max for upload), but on download ... best was 40 - 50 kb/s (total) from 2 downloading torrents ... I don't know what to check :( any ideea?
in transmission.conf I have:
DOWNLOAD_SPEED=-1
UPLOAD_SPEED=41
ENCRIPTION=-e
my /usr/local/sbin/post-firewall looks like:
#!/bin/sh
## FIREWALL
## set default policy
iptables -P INPUT DROP
## deny ftp access from WAN
iptables -I INPUT 1 -p tcp -i "$1" --syn --dport 21 -j DROP
## Allow access to various router services from WAN
for P in 65534; do
iptables -I INPUT 1 -p tcp --syn -i "$1" --dport $P -j ACCEPT
done
And on ASUS web page, under NAT Setting - Virtual Server, I have at Virtual server list:
Port Range: 65534
Local IP: IP of ASUS
Local Port: 65534
Protocol: BOTH
Is anything wrong with this set-up, and what else should I do?
What the numbers of "20:30:26 up 21:28, load average: 3.56, 3.04, 2.55" means, what is cpu, mem ... load?
Can you help me with a how to, step by step config of ssh and winscp, if you have the time :)
Thank you
Hi wengi,
to tell the truth I must tell that kfurge custom firmware was on my router (I love it, however I am curious, that's why I would like to try Oleg's version). I had downgraded kfurge 1.0.4.6 to official 1.0.4.6, then I restarted router and tried to install Oleg's firmware. I am sure I downloaded it from right place: http://oleg.wl500g.info/1.9.2.7-10/WL700g-1.9.2.7-10.zip
On the other hand, I do not understand where is the relationship between firmware upgrade and post boot file, because error message appears almost directly after upgrade process starts (about 2-3 seconds).
@bogd_A:
Your transmission is fine. Checking files takes hours if you have big torrent files on the hdd. My transmission speed is always about 40k. never had it faster except "official" downloads.
I will not write a step-by-step howto. This is linux basics. You have to read and learn....
@all
ALWAYS REMEMBER: Your Asus is a Router and NOT a Pentium Core II Duo with 3GHz. THIS MACHINES ARE SLOW!!!
Amen! Anyways it is a miracle how much I got going on my router.
Full IPv6 support (radvd broadcasting IPv6 subnet)
Lighttpd w/ PHP using FastCGI and eAccelerator extension
Transmission
RRDTool (macsat.com setup)
2 x Dropbear servers w/ SFTP capability
Syslog Daemon (from ipkg)
Now then I do have Wordpress going on the server using a SQLite database (addon db support) and it works surprisingly well. Slow but well enough. I spec the router for the equivalent to an approx 8 year old computer. Not very fast but enough. I won't even attempt to push on a MySQL server. The swapfile works well. So well that even though the number of applications running well exceeds the available ram my router has kept on ticking.
HI,
I had to reconfig from scratch my WL-500gP V2 - HDD system.
Everything worked ok, using Wengi's tutorial, but after installing transmission, I had the first error.
Note that I set my sistem (WL-500gP V2 + HDD) two times before, and had no error.
at vi /opt/etc/crontab
I have:
SHELL=/bin/sh
PATH=/sbin:/bin:/usr/sbin:/usr/bin:/opt/sbin:/opt/bin
MAILTO=""
HOME=/
# ---------- ---------- Default is Empty ---------- ---------- #
On the firs two setups I had:
SHELL=/bin/sh
PATH=/sbin:/bin:/usr/sbin:/usr/bin:/opt/sbin:/opt/bin
MAILTO=""
HOME=/
# ---------- ---------- Default is Empty ---------- ---------- #
*/30 * * * * admin nice /opt/sbin/transmission_watchdog
This is the first difference.
The second error was:
[admin@WL-500gP root]$ transmission_watchdog
ps axf looks like this:
It is possible that the packages may not be downloading or installing correctly. Try uninstalling the packages and then reinstalling it and see if that works. I do know that I installed it fine recently.
It is possible that all this could be caused by the HDD?
I did a e2fsck -fv /dev/discs/disc0/part2, - the IPKG part, and the result is:
I have the same problem as bogd_A. I found out that there is no transmission_watchdog in opt/sbin and trasmissiond in opt/bin and also no www subdirectory under opt/share and also busybox does not listen on port 8008. There must be something wrong with transmission package. After I copied all missing files and run 'busybox_httpd -p 8008 -c /opt/etc/httpd.conf -h /opt/share/www' I got transmission to work.
I'm having the same problem.. But no new package is available for download.
I did "ipkg update && ipkg upgrade" but it says it has nothing to do.
I am using this one: http://ipkg.nslu2-linux.org/feeds/optware/oleg/cross/stable/transmission_1.22-1_mipsel.ipk
but it's not working.
The firmware is WL500gpv2-1.9.2.7-10.trx
Sometimes you just need to wait a while that autobuild machine (http://logs.nslu2-linux.org/buildlogs/autobuild-builder-last.txt) compiles new package for all platforms!
Packages are now available!
ipkg update
ipkg upgrade
One can also do ipkg force reinstall transmission if fails to upgrade. Bu I doubt it.
the only problem I have with transmission is that somehow no graph data is being written to the file...
so I can't create any graphs.
maybe it's due the fact I have /tmp/harddisk mounted as /mnt
I did do the right setup for everything, and changed the values to the right place...
so, oleo, what would you reckon goes wrong?:confused:
I'm having two problems here :)
First of all, I noticed that when I do ipkg update it updates itself from this url:
http://ipkg.nslu2-linux.org/feeds/unslung/wl500g/Packages
Is that the right URL to use ? I'm using 500gP v2 with latest oleg's fw.
on the upper url I find only this (old transmission version):
Package: transmission
Version: 0.82-3
Depends: openssl, libevent
Conflicts: torrent
Suggests: gnuplot, logrotate, thttpd
Section: net
Architecture: mipsel
Maintainer: NSLU2 Linux <nslu2-linux@yahoogroups.com>
MD5Sum: cb7ecd44bcdc0a8feaae2ec28d9a4859
Size: 405817
Filename: transmission_0.82-3_mipsel.ipk
Source: http://download.m0k.org/transmission/files/transmission-0.82.tar.gz
Description: lightweight BitTorrent client and daemon with WWW interface
I then downloaded the package myself from this url:
http://ipkg.nslu2-linux.org/feeds/optware/oleg/cross/stable/transmission_1.22+r6245-1_mipsel.ipk
And installed it.
That's the point of problem #2 beginning:
Once I do everything described in this tutorial on point #9, I can't get transmission to work:
[admin@router disc0_1]$ transmission_watchdog
/opt/sbin/transmission_watchdog: /opt/sbin/transmission_watchdog: 304: transmissiond: not found
What am I doing wrong ? I only get
Jun 24 20:03:15 transmission_watchdog: Transmission daemon restarted! in my log.
I found this thread (http://forum.openwrt.org/viewtopic.php?id=12773) where a guy had the same problem. He solved it by installing "Uclibc-op", but I rather won't try that, before consulting someone here who is smarter and more expirienced than I am. I don't like the idea of piling loads of various (unneeded?) packages on my router, and slow it down.
What is "Uclibc-op" ? Do I need it ?
please help...
Hi@all,
News for the hanging of transmission webinterface:
Do the following:
Install the shell "bash".
ipkg install bash
Edit transmission.cgi. First line to be replaced with:
#!/opt/bin/bashdone.
technical background: The integrated busybox shell and transmission.cgi do not work 100% ok. The exact problem is not pointed out until now.
Hi
I have the following question: It is possible to download one torrent using my PC, and copy the files on my attached HDD on Wl-500gP and to seed this torrent using transmission.
I have some torrents of 60-70G, downloaded from a torrent tracker, on my PC, because WL-500gP is too weak to proper handdle those torrents, and to maintain my ratio I want to seed them (on the same tracker) from my Wl500gP +HDD which is running 24/24.
What is the max number of torrents I can seed with my WL-500gP + HDD?
Trank you,
Found it,
must keep in mind the way the files/folders are structured, so you must keep that structure for torrent files:
one dir:
one sub dir (same name as the parent dir) with the files
the torent file with *.torrent extension
Copy the parent dir in work directory of the hdd, then save the torrent file from the tracker, or other place from which you want to download, as if you would do a normal torrent download.
"update" in transmission web interface, and that's it. it starts the checkimg files process and then seeding.
The only issue is that the torrent stays in work dir and appear as active in transmission :( at least for the momment, I'll wait to see if it is seeding as it should
you are in an old repository (http://ipkg.nslu2-linux.org/feeds/unslung/wl500g/)
This means your complete installation is not maintained any more.
I recommend changing the complete system to the new repository.
Have a look at my howto.
I know this is much more work for you but it is wort it.
wengi
I reinstall system, every thing is working fine now, thanks to you wengi:)
@Syl: fine :)
@bogd_A: Did you download the torrents on the pc with transmission or was it another torrent client?
I used uTorrent for downloading the torrents.
Now the torrent is SEEDING, but still no upload from it ... don't know why, there are a lot of leechers on that torrent, and downloading from other uploaders, except me :)
Found it,
must keep in mind the way the files/folders are structured, so you must keep that structure for torrent files:
one dir:
one sub dir (same name as the parent dir) with the files
the torent file with *.torrent extension
Copy the parent dir in work directory of the hdd, then save the torrent file from the tracker, or other place from which you want to download, as if you would do a normal torrent download.
"update" in transmission web interface, and that's it. it starts the checkimg files process and then seeding.
The only issue is that the torrent stays in work dir and appear as active in transmission :( at least for the momment, I'll wait to see if it is seeding as it should
I personally use another method and maybe it can help you.
- download the torrent with uTorrent on the PC
- start the same torrent with transmission to let create the needed directory / files
- stop the torrent in transmission
- copy all the files from the PC to the correct transmission sub folder
- restart the torrent in transmission
transmission will check the torrent integrity an after start the seeding
Happy seeding :D
I still have an issue accessing my folders shared with samba from my laptop.
I tryed several solutions but none worked.
I can access the shared folders from any PC, PDA, but not from my laptop, the difference is that it is on a windows domain, and I can't change that, beeing my work computer.
Any ideea what I should try?
If I put on my WL-500gP the original firmware, I can access the shared folders on my HDD from that laptop, but when I change to oleg's firmware it doesn't work.
So, my question is: what is the difference between those two firmware regarding the share issue?
I've just discovered that these scripts are called with the disc's id string as a parameter. This makes it possible to avoid having disc checks rerun when another drive (e.g. a USB memory stick) is plugged in. My pre-mount script is now:
#!/bin/sh
logger -t $0 "$*"
if [ $1 = "152d/2338/100" ]; then
# mounting the usb system drive
# turn on swap
swapon -a
# check file systems
for i in `awk '/ext3/{print($1)}' /etc/fstab`; do
if [ -b $i ]; then
grep -q $i /proc/mounts || e2fsck -p $i 2>&1 | logger -t e2fsck
else
logger -t fstab "$i is not attached"
fi
done
# create mount points
for i in `awk '/ext3/{print($2)}' /etc/fstab`; do
mkdir -p $i
done
fiand my post-mount script is:
#!/bin/sh
logger -t $0 "$*"
if [ $1 = "152d/2338/100" ]; then
# mounting the usb system drive
/opt/etc/init.d/rc.unslung start
fiObviously you need to substitute your disc id for the string "152d/2338/100".
Edit: to obtain the disc id, modify your pre-mount or post-mount script to include the line
logger -t $0 "$*", do the flashfs save & commit, reboot and have a look at the syslog.
data is (still) not lost.
some informations needed:
- attach the hdd and post results of:
ls -la /dev/discs/disc0/
ls -la /dev/discs/
mount
- which filesystem are you using?
if fat: connect your hdd to your windows pc.
if ext2/3: try e2fsck.
HI,
3315
Looking at my transmission graph it looks like it has moments when the downloading/uploading speed drops to 0 and then it resume downloading/uploading.
It is normal or it is something else?
What is the max number of torrents that I can seed at one time?
Thank you
wpte
17-07-2008, 00:03
the stopping of the download is quite normal for you lol
max up: 800
max down: 1400:p
crazy man...
what happens is this:
too many ppl with incomplete files waiting for seeders, when you downloaded everything available at that time, your downloading stops...
as soon as someone starts to seed the files your missing and your download begins again;)
optic fiber internet?
Hi,
In think there are some issues with the new trans version (1.22-3)
- after pushing a torrent to start it takes a long time to start, longer than with the previous version
- when a torrent changes his state from active to seeding, the other downloading/uploading torrents stops, the downloading/uploading resumes after pressing "Watchdog"
- the overal speed is lower than the one I had with the previous version (1.22-2).
- I have one torrent that it was checked, and it stays at 100% for some hours now, and if I start a new torrent it automatically checking it, and it wont start unless the first one finishes.
Is there a way to install the previous verssion?
I'm not using Transmission, but I'd like to set up log rotation. Can someone tell me which part of this guide in chapters 9/9b is relevant to me if I only want to set up log rotation? I'd like to make it save logs into a subdirectory on /tmp/harddisk (while still keep the current method of sending logs into the PC in my LAN; my current ps axf regarding syslogd says: syslogd -m 0 -O /tmp/syslog.log -S -l 7 -R 192.168.XX.XX -L )
Simply start with 9b.
insert cron entry and edit logrotate.conf.
Thats it.
I am now using 1.9.2.7-7f with FTP enabled and it works again.
I will upgrade to 1.9.2.7-7g tonight also with FTP enabled. But you prescribe to dissable FTP, strange that it doesn't work. I'm happy with this option. My mission is to have a NZB Newsgroup download server and Torrent download server with my Asus router
1.9.2.7-7g is the newest one for WL 500g routers, isn't it?
First of all: linux-knowledge is probably below average.. i learnt most of it using this tutorial and the freesco router I used to have.. so if my questions are rather stupid.. excuse me :rolleyes:
Because my HD was going crazy at times I decided to install the swap and opt on an USB-stick.. now this one will eventually wear out.. and that is my concern: would there be any way for me to backup the /opt so I could just insert a new USB-stick in the future such that all settings remain the same?
(also: a 2nd question. I did this yesterday.. and since I used this tutorial I now had 3 partitions on my harddisk
1: [previous] swap
2: [previous] opt
3: harddisk
When trying to mount the harddisk to the actual /tmp/harddisk in Fstab I failed. The device just mounted everything to disc0_1 etc. when I ran mount -a it was fine - that is the harddisk (discx_3) was actually mounted on /tmp/harddisk.. however this solution did not sound good to me so I just deleted partitions 1 and 2.. which did the trick.
Is there any way to actually mount that partition using fstab?)
wengi
07-08-2008, 07:32
Hi,
backing up /opt is simply copying the files with 'cp'. Maybe you should stop the services running from /opt before. It is not a boot partition, so no need to image it.
swap does not need to be backed up.
Mounting is working fine for me as it is described in the howto.
it mounts to disk0_3 and creates a symbolic link at /tmp/harddisk.
so no prob at all.
Hi!
First Thanx for the great tutorial! I've folowed all your instructions and everything works just fine. But now I have a little problem.
I've installed transmission with ipkg. After reboot I tryed to start transmission with the command transmission_watchdog but no command like that in my distro. I'm using WL500gp V1 oleg 1.9.2.7-9.
I've had problems with 1.9.2.7-10, it won't connect my ISP sometimes for some reason, but this version works just fine for me.
Please help!
Hello Wengi,
what can i do?
All worked perfect, my Transmission was working great!!
Till, for 3 hours ago, i saw my Transmission was not downloading / uploading any torrent.
i was thinking it was possible, but after 15 minutes, still no change!
Before that he was working great for about 1 month, i guess..
Now, i thought, i will reboot the router, so he will start all the stuff again, and it would be working again.
Problem..
When i go to my http://192.168.1.1:8008/cgi-bin/transmission.cgi
He couldn't find the page
Ok, i started putty, and logged in, ( yeah, i am in the root of the router )
i think the problem is, he cannot mount the HDD.
before that i could find my hdd with ( windows network places )
so, i think it is not the HDD
but before i enter this :)
i thought i will check before i press Enter
i
The HDD was turned on. ( i saw the blue led was burning )
I turned off the router, after that i turned off the HDD,
I turned on the HDD. But now, I hear he is going on, but after 20 seconds, i give a flash (<- the led is going on, and off.) And i hear the noise is going away, so he turned off.
Maybe is my HDD the problem, i don't hope so, i have much stuff on it, i would keep...
Maybe you can tell me what's the problem
thanks for the help
__________________________________________________ _______________
================================================== ========
Solve some problems, but...
i solved the problem with the HDD,
the power problem was solved.
i tested it without connecting the usb cable.
and if i do that, the power light is flashing blue, and the hdd goes off.
now i can connect cgi-bin/transmission.cgi
i will see the screen, but he is not uploading or downloading,
when i push a torrent, i will see the next text:
/opt/share/www/cgi-bin/transmission.cgi: kill: 9: (3373) - No such process
i will look if i can find a answer to solve this problem.
if you can tell it my, i will thank you for that.
__________________________________________________ _______________
================================================== ========
Maybe i am a stupid usesr ;P
but offcourse, i have to push pause first, after that push watchdog, and now he is checking files.
Still my question is there, why he was stopping uploading and downloading, but i think now he is working agian.
( it is possible i am stupid, but now i solved it myself, not because i have a great knowledge, but by trying something.)
I tried a lot of configs and I didn't manage to get it working.
Does anyone have the correct configuration for this to work?
Hey Wengi,
not it isn't well now..
i have a strange thing. maybe you can give me the answer!?? ..: i hope :..
the whole evening my torrents are standing
Checking files... 12.68 % Start: 24 Aug 14:17 End: 25 Aug 22:42 uploaded:
also when i push a Queued torrent he will tell me:
Checking files... 0.00 % Start: 25 Aug 23:07 uploaded: 0.0 MB
but, after 1 hour, he will give me the same information.
i cannot push it, because the torrent has to be suspended. So the only thing is to remove the torrent. ( but i won't remove it )
What can i do?
Hope you can give me a answer.
Have a look at http://wl500g.info/showthread.php?t=15562
Transmission was splitted into two packages.
i am still using an old version and did not upgrade.
Maybe i will do some research to solve your probs. But this will take some days.
The main question: Will we use transmission or transmissiond in future?
The transmission we know until now is called transmissiond in future. (Version 1.22 atm)
The new transmission (Version 1.33 atm) comes with clutch as webinterface
Hi,
I think what he ment is:
when you are using a client like bitcomet, you can select wich files to download from the torrent.
torrents can describe multiple files (as you probably know), so sometimes you only want to download a small file, and not all the files, wich would take hours:p
@terabyte
I will wait until oleo finished the changes.
Until then i will use the transmissiond package in the howtos.
@hdmovie
Sorry, but i will only add things to the howto if i am using them myself.
This is the only way to give a good support.
No media server on my wl-hdd means no media server in the howto.
You will have to use other howtos in this board.
Hi, I believe this is option is standard available. But, if you use the hdd for swap and/or have cron installed (which accesses the hdd every minute) the hdd doesn't have any 'inactive' time so it won't spin down. Also, from what I read from the forum is that the WiFi WLAN function causes hdd-access so it won't spin down when WLAN is enabled.
anyway, the following link should provide information: http://wlhdd.co.uk/wiki/HDD_Standby
code: (for spindown after 10 minutes)
hdparm -S 120 /dev/discs/disc0/disc
(info taken from thread: http://www.wl500g.info/showthread.php?t=12916&highlight=spin)
Hi,
I already installed Oleg, before I was using OpenWRT on my Asus wl500gp.
All works fine for me,but I have problem with permissions to /opt dir.
[root@WL-001BFC918B60 root]$ mkdir -p /opt/tmp
mkdir: Cannot create directory `/opt/tmp': Read-only file system
the same or similar when I trying:
mkdir -p /opt/tmp
ipkg.sh install ipkg-opt
mkdir /opt/tmp
I searched the web with google and I can't find any solution when I'm not using an external usb-hdd. I want to install ipkg, mc, nano, iptraf and maybe 4 apps more - I don't need usb-hdd.... I think ;)
[root@WL-001BFC918B60 root]$ mount
none on /dev type devfs (rw)
proc on /proc type proc (rw)
ramfs on /tmp type ramfs (rw)
[root@WL-001BFC918B60 root]$ df -h
Hi,
no need to browse the web.
Simply rtfm:
Remark: If you get a "mkdir: Cannot create directory `/opt/etc': Read-only file system" your HDD (here the IPKG pertition) is NOT mounted.;)
Check your /etc/fstab and /usr/local/.files.
In etc dir it's only dropbear dir, root is empty,
all of this files are empty, only in post-boot is dropbear ;)
Hi wengi,
Thanks a lot, problem solved - it was in a user settings, because I changed my root user, but not changed settings of corresponding files.
Now have another problem, I feel like noob, because I had to deal this situation year ago and now cannot remember, how have a solved it.
Samba is set, but I cannot access even a folders, because have security set to USER. When typing address of the router than bumps a window, where I can put a user name and password, but cannot access it.
Tried several things, have setted /opt/etc/samba/smbpasswd, where I have a password, but not working. When having security in smb.conf set to SHARE, it works, but I need to have it secured -> USER.
Thanks for help!
Depends on the network config.
- If your asus is directly connected to the inet you will have to open the port within iptables. (see Howto 14b, change port 22 to your transmission port)
- If another router is connecting to the internet you will have to open the port on this router.
@koper89
If you do not use your asus as router: Do NOT use "home gateway" mode.
This can be changed in the asus webinterface.
This will disable firewall, NAT and others...
@mataanjin
1. Do a forum search on how to redirect a port. this has been discussed several times.
2. "Address already in use" means Address already in use :)
You should have a look at ps if transmission is running several times (not the children!) or if another process is using thi port. try 'netstat' to list active ports.
@wengi and all
I have been able to get the mini_sendmail working - for all, like me, that did not know here are the commands -
printf 'Subject: The subject of the email \r\nThis is the body text of the email' |mini_sendmail -t -ftest@test.com -ssmtp.mail.com -v email@test.com
printf 'Subject: The subject of the email \r\nThis is the body text of the email'
This just creates the email, echo won't work because we need to use the "\r\n" to make a newline and return so that the Subject: and body text are separate.
-t (Im not sure why this is needed)
-f (the "from" email *note no space -f)
-s (your isps smtp server *note no space after -s)
-v (the recipient's email * note the space after -v)
Now what I would like to do is
Write a script that runs from cron that will send me an email when an event happens.
The event would be the completion of a torrent or a dropbear logon etc.
How would I do this - I am thinking that the script should check the syslog.log ever hour and extract the log messages that are of interest and send them on .....
Can someone (wengi :) ) give me some help on how to get this done.
Thanks
Velcrow
I have transmission running using transmissioncli, but cannot get it to run correctly via the web interface. The web page comes up, but it does not trigger watchdog correctly, I think.
When I run transmission_watchdog at the telnet prompt, I get this message:
in the WEB page, I get the following when running watchdog:
Thank you for the information.
Please, consider me a beginner, what version should I install and where I can find it? Do I have to make any special settings after installing the older version, or what I did according to the manual will enough?
Another question I have, what is clutch in software terms?
Hi,
I used a guide here: http://wlhdd.co.uk/wiki/Adding_Users for adding users, but my share access doesn't work if I want to disable shell for this user. telnet says:
WL500W login: share
Password:
login: cannot run /sbin/nologin: No such file or directory
what's wrong? :(
Hi all,
I know that being a newbie is annoying, but everyone of you was a newbie before turning into an expert :-)
So, could you please help me with the Transmission?
I need to install Transmission on my router. I'm using Oleg's FW 1.9.2.7-10, which I installed according to this manual.
During the installation everything went great till Transmission installation, then I found out that the manual doesn't correspond with the latest version, that is on Oleg's repository.
What should I do to get it working?
I'm not able to find any older version, that would work according to this manual.
One more question, is there anybody using TorrentFlux (http://ipkg.nslu2-linux.org/feeds/optware/oleg/cross/stable/torrentflux_2.4-5_mipsel.ipk)? It looks really nice.
Recently I updated my Asus WL-500gP with a new WL-500W.
I updated from Oleg's FW 1.9.2.7-8 to 1.9.2.7-10.
Everything works fine (same HDD as before with /opt on it), but I'm in doubt about a couple of things. I used vsftp and samba2 (s2 is running under xinetd) installed with ipkg.
Latest Oleg's firmware has vsftp on it and a Samba version that can be handled by Microsoft Vista.
Can I remove ipkg installed software and use the built in modules ?
Is there a way to use actual cfg files for vsftp and samba2 with built in modules ?
Thanks for your help.
Hi@all,
News for the hanging of transmission webinterface:
Do the following:
Install the shell "bash".
ipkg install bash
Edit transmission.cgi. First line to be replaced with:
#!/opt/bin/bashdone.
technical background: The integrated busybox shell and transmission.cgi do not work 100% ok. The exact problem is not pointed out until now.
I have a WL520GU. How would I allow remote access to the UI ? I would think its related to SNMP - but totally at a loss about how to go about it. Does anyone know how to allow remote management to my WL520GU access so a technician can debug why my VOip is not working behind it ?
Thanks!
1- Stop transmission
killall transmission-daemon
2- Edit the settings.json file:
*- go to string "rpc-whitelist": "+127.0.0.1",
*- fix the value (+127.0.0.1) to your computer IP (i.e. 192.168.1.*) or just delete this value( i.e. "rpc-whitelist": "",)
3- Launch transmission (or reboot router)
In your case, the setting file should be in /tmp/harddisk/transmission/config
Dear Wengi,
Many thanks for your great HowTo! I've managed to format the HDD.
Unfortunately, I can get Transmission working on my setup (WL-500W with Oleg 1.9.2.7-10 and an USB memory card or USB-HDD).
I get the following error when starting S90transmission-daemon:
/opt/etc/init.d/S90transmission-daemon: /opt/etc/init.d/S90transmission-daemon: 36: /tmp/harddisk/transmission/config: Permission denied
transmission-daemon is not started according to ps axf.
When starting transmission with "$transmission-daemon", or
$transmission-daemon -g /tmp/harddisk/transmission/config the program starts, but I get the following error when I try to enter 192.168.1.1:9091
401: Unauthorized
Unauthorized IP Address.
Either disable the IP address whitelist or add your address to it.
If you're editing settings.json, see the 'rpc-whitelist' and 'rpc-whitelist-enabled' entries.
If you're still using ACLs, use a whitelist instead. See the transmission-daemon manpage for details.
I've tried changing the rpc-whitelist, in the settings.json, but without success.
I have followed your HowTo, but cannot figure out what Permission is denied?!?
edit: "chmod a +rwx" the settings file and download directory also did not help
Hi,
first: Do an update of your system:
ipkg update
ipkg upgrade
You are using a REAL old version of transmission.
New versions are 1.4x.
If the above does not update transmission do the following:
ipkg remove transmission
ipkg install transmission
second:
Make sure that this is ONE line in S90transmission-daemon
/opt/bin/transmission-daemon -g /tmp/harddisk/transmission/configI think you have this code in two lines.
Hi,
@ALL
one general thing to all:
If you paste scripts from the forum to the asus via putty and your lines are "shifted" like the pictures above:
The reason is because of the windows formating.
To prevent this behaviour you can copy the content to an editor that is linux capable (i.e. notepad++ (http://notepad-plus.sourceforge.net)) and change the format to unix (i.e. notepad++: format -> convert to unix).
After this you can paste the content properly.
@swordfish77
is the file created if you touch it? (idea of al37919 above)
touch /opt/etc/init.d/S90transmission-daemon
@Wengi,
No, "cannot touch `/opt/etc/init.d/S90transmission-daemon': No such file or directory"
Wengi,
I still get the permission denied message:
/opt/etc/init.d/S90transmission-daemon: /opt/etc/init.d/S90transmission-daemon: 36: /tmp/harddisk/transmission/config: Permission denied
I've also reinstalled transmission, but without result.
I do have read/write access:
$ ls -la /tmp/harddisk/transmission/config
drwxrwxrwx 5 admin root 4096 Jan 4 00:04 .
drwxrwxrwx 4 admin root 4096 Jan 3 22:42 ..
$ cat /opt/etc/init.d/S90transmission-daemon
# update blocklist
kill -9 `pidof transmission-daemon`
echo "usage: $0 (start|stop|restart)"
exit 1
esac
Also:
$touch /opt/etc/init.d/S90transmission-daemon
does not give any output when transmission is started using
/opt/bin/transmission-daemon -g /tmp/harddisk/transmission/config
I don't know if that's a problem?
@swordfish77
Is your hdd mounted to /opt?
Does /opt/etc/init.d exist?
Did you use my howto from beginning?
Which firmware version?
@quazar
it is normal that
/opt/bin/transmission-daemon -g /tmp/harddisk/transmission/configdoes not give an output.
is transmission running after that? (ps)
I don't have init.d ...:( .I use Oleg's 1.9.2.7-10 firmware. And yes, i follow your post (btw - it's gold for me! Thk.v.much!).
Probably you need to read once again carefully point 5. from wengi's instruction. It is explained there how and where to create init.d directory. You cant perform 10. without ensuring that 5. is done correctly
Thank U, it worked! Now i installed Transmission-Remote GUI and can't connect..It's something i wanna do?
Edit: I solve the problem: In Transm.Remote -GUI -> Options ->Remote host, i change "localhost" with server IP adress. And the torrents works, but not have the usual speed..maybe need some setups. What i see , at Upload tab nothing work;maybe after complete download then start upload?
@quazar
it is normal that
Code:
/opt/bin/transmission-daemon -g /tmp/harddisk/transmission/config
does not give an output.
is transmission running after that? (ps)
the program starts, but I get the following error when I try to enter 192.168.1.1:9091
401: Unauthorized
Unauthorized IP Address.
Either disable the IP address whitelist or add your address to it.
If you're editing settings.json, see the 'rpc-whitelist' and 'rpc-whitelist-enabled' entries.
If you're still using ACLs, use a whitelist instead. See the transmission-daemon manpage for details.
I've tried changing the rpc-whitelist, in the settings.json, but without success.
Update 08-Mar-09: I ve got Transmission working now.
Wengi's comment:
Make sure that this is ONE line in S90transmission-daemon
/opt/bin/transmission-daemon -g /tmp/harddisk/transmission/config
made much sense; somehow both vi and nano pasted the text into two seperate lines, thatś when you get the permission denied error.
@swordfish77
fine :)
@quazar
Did you use my settings.json?
i enable all IPs within 129.168.*.* and 10.*.*.*
What is the IP Adress of your client?
Add this IP in settings.
I used the settings of the howto in settings.json.
My WL500W IP address is 192.168.1.1, so 192.168.*.* in the white list should work. Adding 192.168.1.1 to the settings-file does not help (as was tobe expected).
Hi, Wengi
Sorry for this stupid question, how to use clutch?
I searched google for Clutch, and found this page:http://clutchbt.com/
I downloaded the webui source. when i opened index.html, i looks the same as my transmission interface. I still can't find the information.
Can you give me more details? thanks a lot.
Hi Wengi.
Thx a lot for this awesome guide. :)
You wrote:
11. Logrotate for Syslog
Add the following to crontab:
0 0 * * * admin /opt/sbin/logrotate -f /opt/etc/logrotate.conf &>/dev/null
However, crontab is not mentioned elsewhere. It would be better if you write:
Edit crontab:
vi /opt/etc/crontab
and add the following:
0 0 * * * admin /opt/sbin/logrotate -f /opt/etc/logrotate.conf &>/dev/null
Thank you.
i changed the syslog chapter and added a hint to crontab in the cron chapter.
hi,
I've had a new problem. Recently when i use transmission, the speed became very slow (about 10kb/s), but when i use my pc (with Deluge), i have 100kb/s. What's wrong? i use this torrent http://thepiratebay.org/torrent/4654899/Star_Wars_The_Clone_Wars_S01E13_HDTV_XviD-SC-SDH
BTW, how do i use Clutch?
thanks a lot
Hello,
I have one problem with Transmission, if I reboot the wl-500gp, /tmp/harddisk/transmission/config/settings.json doesn't exist anymore. And for that reason, the web gui says "401: Unauthorized Either disable the IP address whitelist or add your address to it. etc...".
So how can I get the file to stay also after rebooting the device? I've done everything as the instructions say, and Transmission works fine until reboot. Transmission is not shown if I use the ps axf command even before rebooting the device, does anyone know why?
Hi,
this is strange because you edit directly on your hdd.
And transmission should be shown by ps.
No idea why the file is deleted....
Hi,
I think it has something to do with the /tmp/ directory? Is it possible that things in /tmp gets erased or something? So would saving the file somewhere else than in /tmp resolve the problem..?
