Hello there,
After several hours of testing a lot of combinations and doing a lot of research on this forum/google I'm forced to make this post.
My router, WL 500g, is working fine besides the fact that it won't let me play Age of Empires II: The Conquerors (DirectX 7) online. It won't let me join an online game. If I leave my router out and connect my cable-modem directly to my computer, everything works fine...but I can assure you, this is not an option since it's always a hassle re-arranging the cables and I get familymembers complaining because they can't get on the internet.
Following webpage contains information about which ports the game uses:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/q240429/
There is a thread in the Tutorial section (HERE (http://wl500g.info/showthread.php?t=411&highlight=age+empires) with a short explanation how to pull this off, but unfortunately this simply does not cut it for me. There's also another thread in the russian part of this forum, and although I do not speak russian myself, the images included in that post clearly show how it would normally work but doesn't with me:

http://wl500g.info/attachment.php?attachmentid=1044&d=1161166868
I have also toyed around with DMZ, unfortunately, no succes.
Anyone has experience with this matter? Or anyone else who could figure out what I'm doing wrong concerning virtual server/trigger port/DMZ/... ? Please step forward and release me from this misery :(
Thanks in advance
PS: I'm using Asus latest firmware. I have also used Oleg's firmware, with the same results.
