I agree. And with screenshots. By the way, is it possible to have this oleg's firmware working only by the graphical interface?
Thanks,

PS - A HOWTO for a torrents manager that worked with Oleg's would be nice too...

I to would appreciate a guide. :p

Straight out of the box ---> to a Torrent Download Machine!!!
(Using Olegs firmware... if that is the best way to go)

I really dont have much experience of Linux coding :(
So if someone has the know-how & could script a guide, this would be REALLY REALLY cool

My WL500gP is getting delivered in 2 days time.... and counting :D

I don't want to be harsch or anything, but there are more than enough guides on this forum to get by.
Just start playing with it.

As other forum members may acknowledge I was a total n00b 2 weeks ago.
I'm still a n00b at this moment, but you have to start and play with the box.

It's not that easy to mess up the box, and when you do, you can easily get it restored.

I have never touched *nix before I bought this product but normal common sense and logic thinking is every thing you need.

Just start with it and post your detailed questions on this forum, I'm sure you will get answers then, instead of asking for guide which are already on this forum.

For starters, take a look a the following guides.

http://www.wl500g.info/showthread.php?t=10307
http://www.wl500g.info/showthread.php?t=6222

Good luck.

ok.

I think we've all made our points.
But instead of being destructive let me ask you a couple off questions in order to add some information for you and future users can use.

- Appearantly we don't understand your question, You ask for a guide, we give you a guide, but that is not exactly what you want. What do you want exactly? I've found the guides very informative, but one has to do some reading and understanding. It's not as installing software on your windows machine where you insert a cd, wait for the dialog to come up, click Next, click Next, click Next and click finish.
Seriously, one would want to understand what he's doing.

- You are saying that the guides are 'just a bunch of linux commands'. supposed to be true... right.. but look at them as 'screenshots' and read the text the poster has written above the code... Usually it's somthing like:

..... after your devices starts you would want to start-up some services automatically. in order to do this you have to add some code to the startup script. In order to edit the startup-script execute the following command in a telnet session:

vi /opt/bin/post-boot

The sample above shows you how to read the guide's.. look at the code as if it were screenshots with code you have to execute. But you have to read the text above..
I do understand you, if you only look at the code, you'll get overwhelmed, and don't know what you're up to...

For starters. install oleg's firmware (pls. search for the location to get it.. prob... http://oleg.wl500g.info).
You can install this by uploading the firmware into the asus as you would do with the normal firmware upgrades delivered by asus...

after that, your asus will still be accesible by the browser on the normal ip adres. however you gain some extra options.

If all went well you are ready to go with the tutorials I mentioned earlier in this thread.

Good luck, and remember, after all the bashing, DO NOT hesitate to ask your question(s). We are here to help you, but in order to let us help you, you have to help us by providing more detailed information about 'the thing you want to do'
