Ethernet cable messing with Playstation video

Hi all

This might be a little off topic, but my WL-500G deluxe seems to be closely connected to some disturbances in the video output signal from my Playstation 2.

I have a PS2 hooked up to the routher via an ethernet cable. When I remove the cable, the image returns to normal. Also, when I plug the PS2 directly into my DSL modem, the image is normal. It seems that it is only a problem when connected directly to the WL-500 router.

The strange thing is that it has just started appearing. I have been playing online with the same setup for a long time, but suddenly the router seems to be emitting some sort of noise that affects my PS2.

Does anyone here know what could be the cause of this? Is my router simply getting worn out? Is it the power supply? Can it be fixed by a firmware update?

Any insight on this subject would be greatly appreciated.

Why should your router become worn?
Usually it takes ages that eletrolytic capacitors become worn.

At first, turn off wireless, use high quality ethernet cat5 cables.

And further: I guess it is not a problem of your asus, much more of your ps2.
Asus Routers usually complies to FCC rules.

But just as hint: turn off any wireless and try to make a shielding with for instance aluminum foil for your ps2 and/or asus. Use very good cat5 cables.

Sorry for the late reply (seems that I did not get a notification email).

I've just looked further in to the problem, and it is definitely not the PS2 that is the problem. When I plug an ethernet cable into an HP Pavillion laptop, the mouse pointer starts jumping up and down, when using the touchpad. I can switch this behavior on and off just by plugging in/out the ethernet cable.

About you suggestions:

How do I turn off wireless completely? I can't seem to find the option for that. I am using standard Asus firmware version 1.8.2.1

Ok, I figured out how:

Status & Log -> Wireless -> Disable

And it seems that the problem is definitely connected to the wireless radio. So it seems that my cable is not good enough, and is affected by the radio signal.

Thank you for the tip. I will get a better cable, and see if I can also shield off the radio from the cable I have now.
