    Question Printer not working

    Dear experts,
I am using Epson EPL-5900L connet by LPR port
I set up the printer as described in manual but the connection is RAW and port 9100
    Firmware: 1.7.5.6 CR4
The router showed that the printer is on-line, however, I can't print from it. Each time when I check the printer status, it always said that the printer is not connected properly.
Anything I have to do to make the printer works?
    Thanks

    Thanks again

Oh! It works on the USB port, however, I want to build up a ftp server on the USB port! Is it the problem of the parallel port?

you can use a USB Hub to solve that problem.

some printer just won't work as they are connected with USB or LPT
e.g. mine does not work when connected through USB

Thanks a lot, now I am using the printer and the FTP sever via the USB port with a hub. They just work fine and can work at the same time.

I have a similar problem with a Brother HL-5150D printer which, according to the lpt hardware list should be able to work on the Asus LPT port, but it just produces gibberish (it looks like printer language commands).

I applied all the tips I could find on this forum, installed Oleg's firmware (good stuff!) and now have both ftp and the printer working on the USB port, using a passive hub.

But still, I'm curious why the printer won't work on the LPT port.
    Anyone any idea?

    René

no idea, perhaps it just won't work, or the drivers are not suitable for this

    difference between lpt and usb

I wonder what the difference is between usb and lpt in terms of communication or signal. It seems so strange to me that the printer works well on the usb port and not on the asus lpt port. On a direct cable from the computer to the printer... no problem with either cable.

the difference is direct access or no direct access
if the drivers do not support this properly it just won't work

e.g. Officejet functions (scanning/faxing etc) does not work while connected via USB at the router..
