Thread: New Asus RT-N16 Router

  1. #166
If you log in to http://ip of your RT-N16/Main_AdmStatus_Content.asp
and introduce the command cat /proc/cpuinfo the output is what I posted, no program was used only the routers firmware.

But I thought BogoMIPS reported the real speed of the cpu in MHz as on other routers I have.

    going to try soon:
    http://www.dd-wrt.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=61570

    update:
can't believe they are using the same wireless drivers... what a crap speed :S
I used to get over 144mbit and now it's all below 54mbit and sometimes slightly higher...

    I can officially announce:
    I get speeds over 10mb/s on dd-wrt

if they'd only fix wireless... over 100 transmission errors

gonna bench some more, they did clock the router at 480mhz btw (so that's an underclock)

    edit:
    PHP Code:
    Mode             Upload        Download        load
    FTP              10.3MB
    /s      6.25MB/s        ~90%
    SMB              7.36MB/s      5.67MB/s        ~80%
    lighttpd                       3.7MB/s         ~25

sorry if there are any daily users/fans of dd-wrt, but it honestly gives me a headache.

after lot of hacking I have my lighttpd running, not with eaccelerator since it didn't want to compile nor run...
got some results as well for that.
php generation on pages can be between 2-4 times faster than my wl500-w with exactly the same setup (apart from eaccelerator which could make it even faster)

oh and lly and theMIROn, please finish oleg for the rt-n16 soon, since dd-wrt is quite unbearable

I'll try it out when I'm home

    update:
    seems to work correctly now...
    update2:
still only a 65mbit connection for my intel 4965AGN card, even when the signal quality is 100%
that was quite different on the original firmware, usually around 144mbit.
it only goes up high when I turn on another N client...

    Smile RT-N16 Questions

Hi everyone, just new here in this forum and got some Q's regarding the RT-N16:
    - Will there be dedicated forum on this site?
    - Anyone knows an ETA of Oleg's FW for this router?
    - Any experiences with regard to throughput when connected to an Airport Extreme receiver?
    - I'd like to use the RT-N16 as a minimal webserver with ssh/sftp and samba for a USB stick plugged in one of the USB ports, + want to run a bittorrent does that sound feasible?
    - Can one connect a webcam to the USB as a security cam, for example?
    - What other router could do this stuff?
    - Any chance to get this thing debianized?

Any infos are highly appreciated!!! This seems a neat community and a fun device for developing...

    Thanks a lot to everyone

    - at some point yes
    - uhm... 1-2 more months... dunno oleg for rt-n16 doesn't seems quite finished yet on svn
    - I don't have anything apple in my house
    - yes, I done it on DD-WRT already, anything that can be done with the other routers can be done on the rt-n16, only quite a lot faster
    - dd-wrt has no such function as far as I see... but on oleg it should be possible. original asus firmware has removed that option as well
    - uuuuuuuhhhhhhhh...... a really expensive cisco router?
    - should be possible

What's the availability like on this right now? I was too late when Newegg got their first shipment in, but now they've deactivated the item

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...038&Tpk=rt-n16

    What gives?

I've tried DD-WRT yesterday and results were:

    FTP
    ===

    DW: 6.25MB/s
    UL: 7.50MB/s

Are you sure is not the samba 7.36mb/s the ftp result?

rt-n branch changelog progress at googlecode.com:
    http://code.google.com/p/wl500g/sour...branches/rt-n/

It boots, static wan/accelerated pptp/l2tp works out-of-box, wifi doesn't (needs some telnetting), flashfs wouldn't be implemented due jffs2 intentions (not implemented yes)
