Some NOOB questions from a new member

    Hi Guys,

1st Of all I wanna say that I think this forum is really cool.
Didn't know there was a whole forum about the Asus WL-500g
I use my WL-500g as AP in combination with 2 laptops, one laptop
connected to a LAN port and one laptop connected via WLAN (Acer
Travelmate 663 with a Intel 2100b Mini-PCI Card). Just like many
others I had a lot of problems with a dying WAN port (setting the
speed to 100Full solved my problems for now) and problems connecting
my WL-500g with my Intel 2100b Card. But after flashing the firmware
to 1.8.1.9 (cant remember it exactly from my head But it is the
newest (English) firmware downloadable from www.asus.com).
After reading for a hour or something on this forum I come up with
a few questions where hopefully you guys can give me an answer too.

    - I have the newest firmware of the Asus site, what would be the advantage
to switch my firmware into the newest customized firmware (1.7.5.9 I
    believe??)

    - How do I load this firmware, just like normal through thw web-interface? Or
do I have to compile the complete firmware myself?
I run a Linux Server (SME 6.0.1-01 based on Redhat 7.3 kernel) without any
compilers (dev-tools) for some security reasons, cause it's a production
    Server.

    - If I run customized firmware on my WL-500g, is it possible to change back
to normal 'official' firmware without problems?

    - I read something about SSH/Telnet access with customized firmware (what
I would like to have very much! ), but does it also contain (the same)
web-interface as the original Asus interface?

Hope you guys can help me out with this questions, I looked around on this forum, but for a real "WL-500g NOOB" everything is not so simple as it looks

    Regards,

    Molski

Check wl500g.dyndns.org page, it contains list of changes.

Just like any other firmware. You do not need to recompile it unless you want to customize it even more.

    Yes.

    Yes.
