Thread: XP - browsing the LAN & Radio LAN

  1. #1

Question XP - browsing the LAN & Radio LAN

Is there an easy way to set the router up to allow browsing the radio and lan clients from each other in "Network Places etc". The subnets are 192.168.1.x and 192.168.2.x. Is it a matter of manipulating the subnet mask in the router settings or have the clients got be set up differently at the moment all clients take IP's from DHCP (LAN and radio LAN) and the gateways are default, DNS and WINS have no extra entries. Any insight and a possible solution would be appreciated.

    Thanks DS

You need to setup WINS server.
Probably samba from the custom firmwares can act as WINS server.

Thanks for the quick reply - how is that done. Do any of your firmware upgrades impement WINS via an internal samba server. (I've used Linux before quite happily but setting it up inside a router is a different matter!)

    Thanks DS

Samba includes nmbd which should act as WINS. Custom firmwares has telnetd enabled by default from the LAN side, for info on how to activate ssh read custom firmwares posts and/or this page
