    Settings lost after power off

    Hi All,

I have a strange problem, aftwer powering off my wl-500gx unit,
all setting lost and reverts to default.
    I am using 1.9.2.7-5a firmware.

I used the following procedure to update the router firmware and setup.

    1. Reboot the router
    2. Upgrade the firmware using web interface
3 Clear the setting using RESET button
    4 Reboot the router
    5. Setting the router using WEB interface
    6. Connecting to router with telnet and executing
    flashfs enable
    flashfs save
    flashfs commit

    7. Reboot the router

    Router works fine

    8. Power off the router, wait for ... let say 5 minutes
9 Power router on ........settings LOST

    PLease, help

    Ilia

Have you tried minimal changes in the settings, without using flashfs?

In the same chip, just like the firmware.
    BTW, have you updated bootloader?

I did not update the bootloader, should I update?

You said that the setting are stored on the same chip with the firmware,
so there is a very low probability that the part of the flash chip is bad.
It seems to be software issue, probably I need to erase the whole chip?

    Thanks

Well, it's still possible, as flash contains several independent blocks.
    Yes, upgrade bootloader.

you may ask your local asus reseller to send this unit to ASUS RUSSIA / ACRU
    or Asus Czech / ACZ

mostly resellers are not allowed to return units directly to Asus repair centers, so pick one which is allowed (the ones who can will know it)

or ask an Asus Distributor to send in this product for you

it should take 2-3 weeks for replacement from Asus

The problem was solved by running
    nvram commit
    Strange, but ...it works
Probably, WEB interface does not commit the data to nvram?

By any way, thanks a lot to Oleg and AntiLoop.
