Thread: WL-500g and USB Webcam problems

What version of firmware did you have before upgrading? Your camera could be OV519(OV51x+) type and it need special version of OV51x driver. Look at http://alpha.dyndns.org/ov511/download.html. In your log for working camera you can see right driver:
    an 1 00:00:12 kernel: ov51x.c: v1.65-1.10-mark : ov51x USB Camera Driver

    webcam not working?

    Hi,
I just connected my webcam and the system log says "USB webcam: attached" but in fact it's not working. What does this message means?
I'm using the original Asus firmware, version 1.8.2; the webcam is a Samsung SNC-35.
    Thanks in advance,

    MatB

Well, loads of other ppl are having (or had) problems with their webcam. Search this forum to see if someone has a solution for you.

Also, try using the latest firmware from Oleg. It has a much more updated webcam driver, so perhaps your camerachip is now supported.

If using the lastest firmware doesn't help and the search didn't help either, then post a complete system log here and try to find out which chiptype is used in the webcam.

Question USB hub (4ports) pb with webcam

    Hi,
So I plugged a logitech webcam on the USB port wl500gx (in other there is my USB key). I launched the webcam application (by clicking on preview on the web page) and it works fine.
But when I plug the hub on the USB port and the webcam on the hub, it doesn't work.
Oh I have to precise you that the hub has an external supply.
Do I have to add some nodes in the /dev/v4l directory ?
Do I need an additionnal driver for the hub ?

    Thanks a lot !

    Webcam password and html files

    Hi,

    I'm using oleg's firmware v1.9.2.7-6b.

When running the webcam I have to give a user and password to connect.
These are the same as the one for logging in to the webinterface.
Is it possible to set a different one for the webcam ?

The other question is. Can I modify the html(asp) pages used for the webcam and use my own ?

    Thanks,

    Gene

    Webcam, USB, Custom firmware

    Hello everyone,

    I'm using Olegs firmware v1.9.2.7-6b.

I've followed the instructions on this website to get a working build environment. Now I can compile the complete stuff.

But I want to change the webcam behaviour.

I wanna use THTTPD as server for the images. Not using the activeX port.
And not using the default httpd server.

Where can I find in the source the stuff to change the behaviour when connecting the webcam to the usb bus ???

How can I force the system to use my rcamd version when testing it on the firmware and plugging in the camera ??

It should work fine without any change. Perhaps there's some incompatibility between webcam/hub. Try to reboot the router with connected webcam. Try to unplug/plug in the webcam while the router is running as well and check what's the matter using dmesg.

    Webcam Creative Vista

Hi, I bought the creative Vista cam which was one of two cams that were listed as "tested" in a list of supported cams in users guide. I´ve chosen the right driver in ASUS menu, but the cam still doesnt work. on the website http://192.168.1.1:7776/ShowWebCam.asp you can only see a message that page can´t be displayed. And if I try in asus menu "preview" - there´s just a margin of a picture but no picture or video inside. There´s nothing more to set up but it still doesn´t work. Do I have to do anything else.... Or am I doing anything wrong?????
    Thanx for answer.....
