    Power over LAN (IEEE802.3af)

    Hi,

I bought a WL-300g, made an updade to the latest code (1.9.3.6en),
but there was no way to power up the box with power over LAN.

Has anybody information how to do it ?

Maybe you should also give some more details about the other equipment; what power source (PoE injector) are you using? Does the PoE injector supply the correct voltage, does it transmit power over the spare pairs or over the data pairs?

    Poe

I have tried both, midspan power injector and power over data wires with a
switch with 802.3af support. I've checked the voltage and other parameters
    with special test equipment.
I've opened the WL-300g, but I was not able to find any source of POL connection to bypass the power supply.

For me it looks like a marketing fake from ASUS.
I cannot believe a code update will make the WL-300 POL ready.
May a new revision of hardware.

OK, so you have been trough all the trivial steps. Are you sure the version of the WL-300g you have is PoE capable?? (I don't know how long the WL-300g has been on the market, but perhaps earlier series are not 802.3af compatible). Is the midspan 802.3af compatible?

I gues the best thing is to try and ask ASUS how to get the PoE enabled, I can't believe it's just a marketing fake

    strange things..

Asus website tells me it is PoE (802.3af) capable

the manual totally shuts up about this..

    edit:
    the box tells this:

Ethernet interface RJ45 for 100BaseT with auto crossover MDI/MDI-XSupport IEEE802.3af Power Over LAN (POL)

I bought my WL-300g one week ago
    (S/N 51 GE13975),
in the same box like in the picture.
    I opened the WL-300, but I didn't find a connection between
RJ-45 LAN connector and power connection.
    For a 802.3af is a module necessary to convert the 48 V
power from the Ethernet LAN cable (midspan or on the data wire)to 3 V like the external power supply.

I talk to ASUS support and got the information the recent software don't
support LOL, please wait for an update comming soon.

But without additional hardware it cannot work, because software is not able to convert and
    transfer electrical power.

That's very strange indeed!! It's a very silly answer they give to you anyway, and I think I have to agree with you that software cannot make a physical connection. Are you really sure there is no possible connection (through the circuit on the board)?

If you're right it seems to me you can do very little about it, except perhaps threatening to make it public if don't solve your problem quickly (after asking it friendly a few times first ofcourse)

    hi:
our company bought 15 wl300g last month. all of them work well
    with our poe switch(PCI ss-0224-fp).
and i think poe is a hardware feature. the firmware come with our wl300g
is 1.6.x.x. and it's poe feature is fine with other firmwares we give it
(asus 1.9.3.x or oleg custom firmware)
