there is an interesting posting on the dronebl blog: the first botnet worm to target routers and DSL modems has affected more than 80K units. as it is mipsel code it could probably run on asus routers too, while there are no reports about it yet. they give quite some detailed info how it works.

I would also suggest preventing brute force attacks. The example below shows how to ban an IP address after three trials.
