Thread: Disable radio

    Question Disable radio

    Hi!

    I have a spare wl500g and I would like to add it as a print-server-gateway.
    Since I do not want to use WDS in this situation, here's what I want to do:

    PC --wireless-->WL500g-1
    WL500g-1 port LAN1 --wired--> WL500g-2 port WAN --> Printer

    So now I can connect wireless to the WL500g-1 and the WL500g-2 is wired thru the WAN port to the WL500g-1 (which acts as DHCP server).

    My question is:
    How can the radio be disabled? And will this setting be retained after a cold reboot?

    I don't need the radio for WL500g-2 so I want it disabled. However, whatever setting I try in the wireless part of the menu, nothing will really shut down the radio. I've tried all posible combinations but no luck.

    Firmware: 1.7.0.5.6

    Thanks!

    D'Mzz!

    Upgrade Firmware - with 1.8.1.7 you have Options for that in the advanced wireless menu.....

    Well, in my current firmware in the wireless advanced menu I do have the option to enable the radio (or disable as you wish) at certian time period(s). However, that does not work. When I deselect all days --> radio off all the time, then I can still connect wireless to the router.
    I really doubt that upgrading will help unless it has an option "DISABLE RADIO". Does it?

    Hi,
    one Line above the days is an option "enable radio". Have you tried to disable it?

    yes, like I wrote in my opening thread, I've tried all combinations...

    I don't want to upgrade unless there's no other way. The wl500g is working fine now so I don't see a need for an upgrade.

    Ok, but tell me, in the 1.8.7.1 firmware, do you have a "real" option to shut it down?

    YES!!!

    I told you: enable / disabble radio works from the web interface wireless/advanced. Please believe me you should really consider the upgrade. If you don´t like it just downgrade again...

    ciao + end

    if you are able to telnet into the router or search for the hidden admin page an ifconfig eth2 down will shut down your wireless interface from your asus wl500g. At least with mine it works like that.

    So if you do not want to upgrade your firmware you should be able to shut it off like that.

    You could even put it in post-boot so if the thing needs a reboot it will automatically switch off your wireless interface once the boot is done.
