Using the wireless as a internet connection

Heya, I'm trying to do the following:

I want the router to work as it does in "Home Gateway Mode", But instead of connecting to the internet with the WAN port I want it to connect to another router with the wireless interface.

I have gotten it to work in AP mode with the wireless adapter in bridged mode, but then I can not use my own DHCP server.

    Okay, to clairfy:
I want to use the wifi interface as the wan port

well, then we are talking about a bridge. Further, when main router to inet has ability to support a wds connection, you can use WDS. That would be easy and has the advantage, that your router is an ap and a wifi bridge at the same time. Only one very small disadvantage is given: each WDS-Node cuts down the transfer rate to the half - but with just 2 routers it isn't so much, usually inet connection is much slower.
Search forum for wds ad/or wifi bridge......
    have fun

    Thumbs down Wirelless bridge, repeater

    Hi !

I strugle with same issue. I've got
Netgear WGR614 v7 connected to the internet and Asus WL500gP with Oleg's firmware.
I tried dd-wrt but it was very unstable and I bricked my router (pin 10 trick do the job http://wl500g.info/showthread.php?t=1606&highlight=pin).

Then I was trying to do this with this post by P Still:
    http://wl500g.info/showthread.php?t=856&page=2

    Anyway I still have problems.
Asus in AP mode (System setup; Operation mode) has disabled wan IP.

Maybe some clues step by step from Factory Default ?
I really don't care if there will be 2 subnets or one set by Netgear DHCP.

    PS. Sorry for my English

If I set Extended Mode (Wireless - Advanced) to the Ethernet Bridge - I've got access to the internet (only via cable).
What is interesting. When ethernet bridge is enabled during site survey I see just one network. When "AP or WDS" I see two networks (both same SSID) but connecting to just one of them gives internet access (so wirless bridge not working).

    ---
It looks like WGR614 v7 doesn't support WDS ... So i suppose that in this cas Asus will not work as AP or WDS. It works just as Ethernet Bridge. Any other suggestions to enable wi-fi ?

    So do I .....

I wanted quite same configuration, i have a netgear cvg834g provided from my ISP, it provides internet for the house and lan for the rest of wired and wifi computers

I also have a wl500g and wanted to use it in order to connect my Xbox (outside wired network) to the lan and internet

After upgrading with Oleg firmware (God bless this guy) i managed to use :

    - Router config
    - Wan Ip automatic
    - Lan - 192.168.0.1 / 255.255.255.0
    - advanced ethernet bridge
    - bridge on AP only
    - WPA / TKIP for wireless client connexion

Now i have access to smb shares on my lan (192.168.1.0) from the xbox (192.168.0.50) but doesn't have access to internet

I think it's because i don't have access to routing table of the netgear.

My wl330 access point was working best but ..... it burns ......

If anyone know a trick for it to work

    Still nothing

    Hi !

I still havn't found solution for accessing internet (Netgear) using WL500. What I managed to do is

Comp (LAN) WL500G (WLAN) Netgear (WAN Internet)

I wasn't able to get this:
Comp (WLAN) WL500G (WLAN) Netgear (WAN Internet)

I was doing that over 6 months ago so maybe there is new Oleg's Software (again, big thnx for so great job).

Well, i'm not sure that i have understood ....

    I have

comp (lan) WL500g (WLAN) Netgear (Internet Wan)

    In this config,
    - my lan from Asus side is 192.168.0.0
    - my Wlan from Netgear is 192.168.1.0

I can access from comp in asus lan to another computer in netgear lan/wlan
I suppose that as i don't have any access to netgear routing tables, i can not tell him 192.168.0.0 is routed through wlan port.

Did you accessed to the net like this ?

PS : i also tried to config a bridge instead of a router like this
    - my lan from Asus side is 192.168.1.0
    - my Wlan from Netgear is 192.168.1.0

but it doesn't work at all

    Yesssss :)

    Finally it works !!

    How to connect a WL500g to a Netgear CVG384g working as a reapeter ?

First install the Oleg Firmware 1.9.2.7-9

    - system setup / operation mode / access point
    - wireless uses client configuration with Netgear SSID / WPA2-TKIP
    - Wireless / advanced uses ethernet bridge
    - ip config is fixed, using 192.168.1.150 / gw 192.168.1.125 (netgear)
    - dns is 192.168.1.125 (netgear)

Access point is the key !!!! Router mode may only work if having access to the other router routing tables.

Thanks for help of this forum and one again to Oleg.

I'm running Windows XP Pro (SP2) with all the recent patches installed.
My router is setup with a WPA / TKIP security.

I think that this configuration doesn't make Asus a wireless signal reapeter. Wireless is used as a local port (5 ports switch). Wifi is not getting stronger. The only solution is to use cables connected to asus and then via WiFi connect to NetGear.

I think it is impossible to enable wifi at Asus for make signal stronger.

PS. One more time, sorry for my English.
