    Flash Upgrade?

Is it possible to upgrade the flash modules on the WL-500gP? Would I need an EPROM reader/writer?

I was looking at this one or this one.

Upgrading your flash is theoretically possible, but doesn't make any sense.
When using usb-hdd/stick you can store everything on your hdd, which is much easier and fast.

EPROM reader/writer is not (never) needed. Your Asus can handle this in different ways.
    - Firmware flashing, even when customized
    - with tftp (part of winxp) you can flash your fw
    - you store files into your router-ram and tell your router which file
he should store into flash (a good example is your post-boot).
This is only possible with olegs firmware.

I know it's not practical given the options. I just put in my order at newegg for the router and I have an external hdd I plan to use in the filesystem. Mostly I just want to know the limitations of the device. I imagine it would also simplify things to have more on-board memory, and with a faster chip it might improve boot speed. (I know the chips I listed are slower)

Anyway, I have a lot to learn, but if the chip is brand new and completely blank, won't that effectively brick the router and make tftp and all other ethernet flash utilities useless? I haven't seen anything definitive about UART flash capability. Is that an option?
