Thread: My WL-700gE just became a brick

Unhappy My WL-700gE just became a brick

    Hi,

Due to an ill advised attempt to upgrade from firmware revision 1.0.4.6 to 1.0.7.8 my WL-700gE is now demonstrating how like building material it now is. I can ping it and it responds but it will not work with the firmware rescue tool, it just sits there, READY flashing all the time.

A quick scan of the forums found a post from e-motion who advocates using TFPTD and a program to split the .nas file into two .trx files, now since nothing else works I thought I might try that but asustrxextract.exe is available from http://www.headcrash.biz/wl700g that doesn't appear to be there any more .

So has anyone got a copy of the above tool or a link to where it is now? Or even any ideas on where I can gop next?

    Thanks

first try to press the reset button for 10 seconds,
then wait a few minutes ... should re-brick it

Use a tftp client to put the following file on the router:

    http://www.wl500g.info/files/asus/cu...urge/flash.trx

Reset the router then upload the .nas file of the image you want in your router using the standard Asus tool.

I changed a couple of times the firmware and had the impression the router turned into a brick. Nevertheless it always returned to the wanted state ! ;-)
Sometimes you have to wait a little longer and switch the router off, switch it on again and push the EZ-setup button followed by pushing the reset button with a small pencil. Then wait sufficient time (ten minutes or so). The router should be ok again.

    Problem Solved

    OK,

Thanks for the help, kfurge's suggestion worked fine and I'm back up and running.
