Firstly you need python installed (2.4 and 2.5)

Then download the fail2ban sw from their server (http://www.fail2ban.org/wiki/index.php/Main_Page)

Install it (you'll have to mod the setup.cfg script to run python2.5 as the environment and to the opt directory)

After that you need to do some tweaking...

To get it to run you need to modify the three core files: fail2ban-client, fail2ban-server and fail2ban-regex (they should be in the /opt/bin directory... if not then move them there).

Each file references the /usr/share/fail2ban directory for the core components (it's like line 30ish). All you have to do is replace the /usr/share/fail2ban in each of the three files with /opt/fail2ban (which should be your install directory). To test if it's running ok all you have to do is type fail2ban-client -d (you don't need the python statement as it was set at install when you modified setup.cfg to use python2.5 as the environment).

If it works it will display the current jail.conf settings. Then if your jail.conf settings are ok you can launch the application by typing fail2ban-client start (with the -c /[dir]/ if you didn't switch the location of the config files in the fail2ban-client file in the /opt/bin directory). Also make sure that the logging is to the correct location (I put it to the syslog) and that the logging level is correct (3 for runtime 4 for debug).

Hope this gets you off the ground.

    New 1.0.7.8

    Hi K.C.

Is your custom firmware available yet? Just installed ASUS 1.0.7.8 firmware and although working ok still some few issues. I wanted to load your custom FW.

As a side note you and medsource have been great in helping guy specially newbies like me to get my router loaded, greatly appreciated.

Hope your FW has most of the options thought GUI as I have very little to no experince of Linux.

    Great work thanks.

I've been a little distracted lately. Things will pick up when the weather gets colder in the northern hemisphere. Right now, I have the an image with a bunch of packages pre-installed. I haven't flashed it into a router yet, that'll happen shortly.

Perhaps question to different forum, but also a wish related to the new firmware image.

Does the current FW kernel have multicast support enabled?

Would it be possible to include it in the next release of your firmware, perhaps add also mrouted (which I am not able to find as IPKG package :-(

    Thanks.

Thanks - at least I know that "playing" will not help and if I want to make it work I have either to:
    - start with openwrt
    - build new kernel
which is both more time consuming than I can invest without affecting my family life :-)

Any chance it gets to your new FW? Is there anything I can do to support this?

    torrentfluxx

    Hi kfurge,

i think for downloading torrents, the
torrentfluxx project will be a very good choice.
I tested it on a linux root server. It was very stable and easy to use/configure via webinterface.

    Needs httpd and sql.

    Hi K.C,

Just a word of thanks on your efforts for the community

The Wl-700 has a copy function on front panel, where you can load data from USB key.
    1. Is this functionality open to allow modification? do you know.
    2. If so would you think it's technically possible to integrate a USB DVD player to back up DVD's onto the HDD.

I am willing to roll up the sleeves and start programming, willing to learn to help the community. May be it could be done with Ipk? what do you think?

If possible this would be on the wish list along with better support for Ushare and Bit torrent.

I want only a fully working download master with very good Bit-Torrent support. That is my goal. Question? if you make this i only need to give the router the new firmware update (nothing more?) and it works than?

Both items should be possible. Button presses can be trapped. In fact, I rerouted the power on-off button on my router to my own custom script to do a couple of things before calling the Asus routines.
