    USB HDD connects as Webcam

    Hello,

I am having troubles connecting a Ice Link Mobile HDD USB2.0 with a Maxtor 160 GB HD inside. I have created a 160 GB primary fat32 partition on the drive and have attached the drive to the router.
In the system log I can read the following:

Oct 15 21:59:23 USB webcam: attached

    But I don't have a webcam attached!

How can I attach the HDD in a proper way??? Do I need another firmware, I tried to upgrade from 1.6.5.3 to 1.8.1.9 and I think I succeeded but somehow I still see 1.6.5.3 as firmware version in the firmware upgrade window.

    Who can help?

    It is disabled!

The message is HDD related, I tried it by disconnecting the HDD.

    Update:

I rebooted my pc and now my firmware version is ok.

I also tried a memory stick and that worked also.

Is there a way to mount the hdd in a proper way?

I updated the firmware to 9.8.2.1 and tried again. I saw more lines in the logging (maybe related to beta version of firmware).

The following showed up in the logging:

Seems ASUS decided, that you've attached a webcam based on vendor id. You need to flash custom firmware to get vendor id and device id from your case. I need this information to try fixing this.

I upgraded to Oleg's firmware 1.7.5.9-5 and that did the trick for me, no problems anymore.
    Thanks for the work Oleg!

Please send me an output for the
    Code:
