Well I'm not able to extract my current firmware from the wl-hdd like Oleg explained, so I won't be installing this beta...
If I download the firmware, I assume this will not include my passwords and wep settings?
And has anyone else bought this thing or will I be the only one on the forum? :confused:

Tried dmesg again, no crash this time but still no output.
Where it says "file system ok" it already has said twice that the file system needed checking. Is that the linux alternative for Microsofts scandisk?

Well, I got this baby working. It now connects as a client to my wl-500g. The drive is shared wirelessly to the wired network attached to the wl-500g. I created 3 partitions which show as shared...
Only usb 1.1 on this one also, but it's only for reading usb sticks anyway.
Features: hdd prescan for error detection and auto copy of usb sticks.

It's funny how this thread should be about the experiences with this beta version, but instead it's filled with people trying to get rid of it. Doesn't anyone think & read this forum before they act?
Download the latest manual in pdf for the wl-500g from asus. It has more info on setting up ftp's than the paper version I got with my router... Especially on the user accounts.
