Cannot enable WEP encryption in client mode

Trying to do something really simple. I just want a remote hard drive on the wireless network that connects my laptop and my wireless router (dlink). I've set the device to client mode only.

It works fine if I have encryption turned off, but once I turn it on for all three devices I cannot see the HDD. Turns out the HDD does not enable encryption no matter what settings I try.

Asus wants me to send the device back for replacement. Feels more like a firmware/setup issue to me. Any help?


P.S. I tried the Oleg custom firmware but could not get any wireless connection after that. Is it supposed to be able to work as a client? Does that firmware support WAP as a client?
