This AC does more than cool you down, it speeds you up. We’ve seen many of the 802.11ac
products ASUS currently has on offer, and soon this new addition will be joining the family.

This is the RT-AC56U, a mid-upper range networking device that’s loaded with goodies to make
the most of the latest in Wi-Fi. Just to recap quickly, 802.11ac takes over from 802.11n as the
fastest and most powered Wi-Fi standard. You can check out the official protocols on the IEEE site.
And get excited about the RT-AC56U…

The RT-AC56U is quite the looker, maintaining the black diamond design previous performance
routers from ASUS showcased. Of course, the antennas are internal, which means a sleeker
device, less interference and, in my case, nothing for headphone cables to get snared on,
reducing the likelihood of mishaps.



In terms of speed, the RT-AC56U has two bands (2.4GHz/5GHz) that concurrently top at 1167Mbit/s.
While not the fastest in the ASUS networking arsenal, this is more than enough to cover you even
if you’re on a rare true Gigabit connection. Inside we find a fifth generation Broadcom chipset that
is at the heart of 802.11ac optimisation.

You can see quite clearly that the RT-AC56U has both USB 3.0 and USB 2.0, so connect away:
printers, external storage, even 3G/4G adapters. This is more than a router, it can easily become
a server to share resources, something ASUS networking products are very keen on doing.



The internal antennas are supported by ASUS AiRadar signal amplification and shaping technology,
which we’ve talked about before as well. This nifty touch has an intelligent algorithm built into the
CPU that modulates signal power based on how many devices you have paired with the RT-AC56U,
how far each one is, how much bandwidth each requires at any given time, and what letter of the
alphabet the device name starts with. Just kidding about that last one. On a serious note, ASUS
engineers tell me in real world test conditions AiRadar can extend Wi-Fi coverage 150% compared
to an exactly-specced router that doesn’t have it, though of course your results may vary.



Naturally, the ASUS AiCloud app is bundled and supported, so you can use your iOS and Android
devices to access the RT-AC56U from pretty much anywhere, share stuff from external storage
hooked to it with other people. You can also access, stream, upload, and download content, but
remember you do need external storage for this – that’s why the USB ports come in so handy.



The RT-AC56U should be launching in the very near future, with more details forthcoming.

информации о критической уязвимости в беспроводных маршрутизаторах Cisco Linksys. Уязвимость позволяет из внешней сети получить
доступ к устройству под пользователем root без проведения аутентификации. Компания Cisco была уведомлена о проблеме несколько
месяцев назад, но исправление так и не было выпущено. В настоящее время все доступные версии прошивки Linksys уязвимы, что ставит
под удар около 70 млн находящихся в сети устройств. Выявившие уязвимость исследователи не намерены больше скрывать информацию
от общественности и планируют дать компании Cisco ещё две недели на подготовку обновления прошивки, после чего опубликовать
детали уязвимости и концептуальный прототип эксплоита.

Full 802.11ac product lineup

In addition to the RT-AC66U router, ASUS has also released the PCE-AC66 and USB-AC53 clients, both capable of 802.11ac speeds.
The dual-band PCE-AC66 offers a PCI Express client card for desktops, with 3 x 3 high-powered transmission. It can sustain 1.3Gbps
in 5GHz and up to 450Mbps in the 2.4GHz band. For easy USB upgrades to 802.11ac, the USB-AC53 compact dongle plugs into any
USB port, with 2 x 2 802.11ac. In 5GHz, the attachment can maintain 867Mbps, while in 2.4GHz it works at 300Mbps, achieving a
total throughput of around 1.3Gbps. The PCE-AC66 and USB-AC53 are enabled by Broadcom’s 5G WiFi chips, and demonstrate ASUS
technology leadership in bringing an 802.11ac ecosystem to consumers.

маршрутизатор ASUS RT-N12HP. Одной из особенностей устройства, заметной даже при беглом взгляде на
него, являются сменные антенны, характеризующиеся коэффициентом усиления 9 дБи. Вкупе с встроенным
усилителем мощности они обеспечивают расширение покрытия. По оценке производителя, радиус покрытия
достигает 300% по сравнению с «обычным роутером» 802.11n.



Не менее важной особенностью устройства является его универсальность: ASUS RT-N12HP может работать
роутером, точкой доступа (в паре с модемом или проводным маршрутизатором) и удлинителем. Возможна
одновременная организация до четырех отдельных сетей (SSID).

Устройство соответствует требованиям стандартов IEEE 802.11b/g/n, IEEE 802.3/u, IPv4 и IPv6.
Его максимальная пропускная способность равна 300 Мбит/с. Маршрутизатор работает в диапазоне 2,4~2,4835 ГГц.
Можно отметить поддержку WEP, WPA2-PSK, WPA-PSK, WPA-Enterprise, WPA2-Enterprise и WPS.
В конфигурацию входит один восходящий порт 10/100 BaseT и четыре нисходящих 10/100 BaseT.
Питается устройство от внешнего адаптера. Габариты ASUS RT-N12HP равны 179 x 128 x 28 мм, масса — 320 г.
