Hi,

Just installed my wl-500g and i'm having problems installing my brother hl-1250 printer.
I'm running firmware version 1.8.1.9 .
The printer is attached via a parallel cable.
I added a port IP_192.168.1.1 , protocol LPR , queue name "LPRServer" , lpr bytecounting unselected, snmp unsected. And installed the printer to use that port.
I even tried the asus utility from the site ( not the version from the cd) but it won't work :( . It tries to print and after a while it gives an error printing.
If i look at the router status it shows the printer is online.
Tried on 2 pc's , both windows XP pro SP2

Any idea's ?

One more question. I bought an asus WL-107G card (using newest driver) to go along with the router but the range is terrably dissapointing. A few meters away from the router the signal is very low already, and the connection drops. I already tried a few different radio strengths ( now at 83) but that doesn't seem to help. If i use wep it get's even worse.
At first i thought it was the card but it does find an netgear router from one of my neighbours trough my entire house , but it won't find the asus a few meters away from it. So i guess i can rule the network card out.
I tried moving it to a different place but that didn't help either.

Any idea's on this one ?

Firewall(s)??
Sure the cable supports biderctional communication?
In the manual on the cd that comes with the router you can find a detailed description of setting up LPR printing in WXp.
Upgrade your printer drivers
Check out the following thread : http://wl500g.info/showthread.php?p=3792&highlight=brother#post3792 or contact the person that posted it.

cable supports bidirectional, i followed the instructions to set it up and had the latest printer drivers installed.
The other threads where the reason i bought this router :D.

But you nailed it in the first line :D
I disabled the firewall before i read your reply, and after i read your reply i pressed print again and it worked.

Thanks.

Hmm...I have the same problem as Typho, about my printer.
I have used the latest Printer Discouvery Wizard from Asus, but it is continuing giving me an error.
My question is, what is the port on the Asus WL500G for the printer?
I have shut down the firewalls, so that was not the problem.

Thanks,
Rick

working with the firewall enabled of disabled ?
Does anyone know which ports need to be open for printing ?

It is working with the Firewall of windows XP SP2 on.
I really don't know which port it uses...
